So it seems everyone thinks this is just about fuel efficency however we all know gas won't stay this cheap. Regardless, I can't see putting that much miles on the Camaro. Yes I could get a cheap car but then that gives me 4 at the house. Plus winters are worse so would hate to drive the Camaro. Trust me I hate this and will lose money.

Just get a 2000 Toyota Camry. You can probably find one cheap ($4K) with 150k miles. Those cars will go 300k miles with regular oil changes and a timing belt change. I would not buy a new car to destroy running up all those miles. Keep the Camaro under a cover in your garage.

Don't buy a motorcycle thinking it will save you money for commuting. Besides the initial cost of the bike, tires will be ~$300 (low side) a set around every 8k to 10K miles, depending on road conditions and your right wrist... unless you do your own maintenance, oil and fluid changes won't be cheap, as well as other maintenance items... then there is your gear.

Yeah I've owned plenty of bikes in my day and actually it was my only ride until I bought the Camaro.

My commute, one way, is 43 miles. So, 86 miles daily.
The car will be one year old on 1 April, and I just hit 19,000 miles this morning on the way to work. I haven't regretted this for a moment. Granted, I am moving closer to work, shopping for houses now, but still anticipate it having 30,000 miles, at least, on it by its second anniversary. Sure, I spend a bit more on gas and maintenance, than most folks I know. Don't care. The noise the car makes every morning still makes the upcoming drive more worthwhile than it otherwise would be. If I were getting into a boring commuter car, it would just be torturous. |

Then you have to think of the weather- do you have it in you to ride in awful weather? It's not for the feint of heart, for sure...I've done ice, rain, 110+deg heat, and I will say that unless the weather is perfect, it will not be enjoyable after the first 10 minutes. Also, at the end of a 50 mile commute on just about any [relatively] affordable bike, you're going to be tired. Are you going to want to work an 8-10+ hour day after the wind has been pummeling you for the past hour or so? How about doing things around the house after working that day, and then getting beat up by the wind for another hr or so? It really is work to ride a bike, I would not suggest it for everyone as a primary form of transportation, though I sure did love mine. Just sold it about 3 months ago bc I never ride anymore :( |

I put 12k miles a year on my ST1300, and 16K miles a year on my Goldwing when I lived in Houston(Katy Proper)... but I used them as my primary commuter ride, and toured extensively on them (IBA guy).
I now have a C14, but hardly ever ride anymore...

The deal sounds fair. Max trade value is $27K + but they usually have some profit in the new car to make it look better. Accord is decent transportation if you can still live with yourself. It's the sensible thing to do, but you only live once.
![]() Highway miles are not that tough on a Camaro. Easy miles. As pointed out it will still take several years to re-coup the investment of the Accord 4 banger. Get some snow tires and a car wash pass and you will be $$ ahead and enjoy your commute much more. ![]() JMHO

I drive mine 68 miles a day round trip (2013 1SS). I put gas in it often but it's well worth it. I look forward to my drive to work in the Camaro.

Or are you concerned that the Camaro isnt up to the task? People have proven the Camaro can be a decent winter car with tires, and can stack on the miles. If it is the car you love, stick with it. I wouldnt worry about the condition/miles for the next owner.
