With that price.. I think it would be ideal just to buy a tablet (android one). They're updated more frequently

Updated Maps are licensed, controlled and cost money to distribute. These are not owned by manufactured "for free" like say, Google Maps on your tablet or cell phone.

Kinda crazy they charge you an arm and a leg to get nav in the car, and then have the audacity to make you pay for an update. |

I tried everything I could do to get GM to discount it. Everyone needs to complain to GM customer service about it and maybe they will do something. Posting the USB would be a good too. |

Well I know VW and Ford both charge about the same for nav updates so why wouldn't GM?

Without using the link above, go to Chevrolet.com and see if you can find any information on it. I couldn't find anything on it. They even have a page dedicated to my link info and still nothing. They should make you aware of this when you spend a lot of money for the nav system that's built in the car. People would think twice about getting it. That was my biggest complaint. Ford's was very easy to find on their site. My $300 iphone does free map updates (Tom Tom, waze, Apple maps, google maps, etc.), why should a $42,000 Chevrolet not have downloadable updates for free or for a very low charge. |

The reason the price is what is is is that GM has to pay for the map software and a royalty to the company who makes the mapping software. In that charge you will find the GUI/interface software and the actual mapping data which is supplied by one of 2 companies that supply the digital data to the manufacturers like GM. That is why the updates are not free.
And by the way, the navigation in my '14 2LT cost $450, not $900. |

Sent an email to Gen5DIY to see if the update can be used on units bought from them. He was looking into it.
