With that price.. I think it would be ideal just to buy a tablet (android one). They're updated more frequently

Updated Maps are licensed, controlled and cost money to distribute. These are not owned by manufactured "for free" like say, Google Maps on your tablet or cell phone.

GM wants $160 for it when car is 1 year old. They consider it not being a necessary update and is considered an accessory. If you choose to upgrade the system, it would be at your own expense. We pay $900 to have nav built into the car only to be a year or could be less and have to fork out more money. We should at least get one free update. They even hook it to your vin, so I don't think it would even work on any other Camaro in 2014-2015. Also, accessory should be able to be moved from car to car if needed. Software isn't an accessory. GM customer service says different. :(
Someone buy it, and upload the USB file contents. I'm sure it is easy to modify the files to work with any car.

Kinda crazy they charge you an arm and a leg to get nav in the car, and then have the audacity to make you pay for an update.

I tried everything I could do to get GM to discount it. Everyone needs to complain to GM customer service about it and maybe they will do something. Posting the USB would be a good too.

Well I know VW and Ford both charge about the same for nav updates so why wouldn't GM?

Without using the link above, go to Chevrolet.com and see if you can find any information on it. I couldn't find anything on it. They even have a page dedicated to my link info and still nothing. They should make you aware of this when you spend a lot of money for the nav system that's built in the car. People would think twice about getting it. That was my biggest complaint. Ford's was very easy to find on their site. My $300 iphone does free map updates (Tom Tom, waze, Apple maps, google maps, etc.), why should a $42,000 Chevrolet not have downloadable updates for free or for a very low charge.

I don't disagree at all. When My son first bought his Jetta a year later We tried to get a nav update disk. At that time it was 300 bucks. Ridiculous! Since then it has come down but still why can't they all give free or very low nav updates?

The reason the price is what is is is that GM has to pay for the map software and a royalty to the company who makes the mapping software. In that charge you will find the GUI/interface software and the actual mapping data which is supplied by one of 2 companies that supply the digital data to the manufacturers like GM. That is why the updates are not free.

And by the way, the navigation in my '14 2LT cost $450, not $900.

Hay guy does this update change the interface or graphics on the head unit because looks like the nav program is like 10 years old

I think it only changes the streets or roads. Nothing to do with the interface or looks of the maps.

Sent an email to Gen5DIY to see if the update can be used on units bought from them. He was looking into it.

At one point they can to me and said it has another 1 hour to go before they could even do the oil change. They already had my car for a couple of hours doing the alignment before. I haven't noticed anything different yet. Just had to pair my phone to it again. That might help you out.
What version mylink software do you have after that update?
