That's like saying "why own a Harley unless you have to kick-start it?".

Well, I did that for a good number of years as well. Right knee hurts too.

Here we go again...

I love it when the OP starts these off thinking a 6 speed is a manual transmission.

Automatic, because he's my DD, and I don't want to spend the rest of my life shifting gears. LOL! I NEVER plan on getting rid of him, he's my dream car!

I bought an auto for a few reasons...
I've had lots of manuals in the past, when I was younger and liked to burn lots of rubber :-)
Ordered this car when I was 67 and just didn't want to worry about the clutch as I and the car got older. Also, around where I live, there's lots of long highway trips to take, and I'd end up sitting in top gear for hours anyway.
Besides, all I have to do is work the paddles and I can wind it up as I please. Got my Range device within a couple months of delivery, so I'm having plenty of fun with what I've got!

Ever since high school, I've um, DISLIKED automatics for personal reasons I won't get into that might start a flame war, but since then, I've always preferred a manual in ANY car I've bought. Out of the last 10 cars that I've bought, 2 have been autos, and that's only because I tried to teach the wife, but she was hopelessly clueless when it came to driving a manual and she needed a family hauler (good luck finding one of those in a stick outside of Europe).

Traditional Muscle car = V8 + Manual Transmission + Awesome Sounding Dual Exhaust + Limited slip/Posi + Tachometer

Bare minimums for me.

Add an automatic, it becomes a touring car. (doesn't matter if it's faster)

Have a six cylinder, it's a tuning car.

Race cars are special and don't count in this comparison. Cars like a Buick Grand National and certain one offs get a pass because of their awesomeness.

Convertible tops just add awesomeness.

If I wanted to ride in my car. I'd hire a chauffeur, but I like to drive my car. So it's a 1LE with only manual like it should be.

I HATE manuals because I own an automatic. I HATE automatics because I own a manual.

I had a manual Genesis Coupe (not a great tranny) I totalled and it was replaced by an auto Camaro because I wanted my wife to be able to drive it too (she doesn't know how to drive a manual). I got Vitesse paddles and everything but without that third pedal, I just could not love the Camaro.

The Camaro is OK. Looks great, good options package (RS 2LT) nice pick up and sounds fantastic with the intake and Gibson cans. But.....

So we traded in my wife's Prius so I could get a manual FR-S. Now everyone is happy. I can drive the Camaro every now and again to remember what HP feels like (LOL) and I have the sublime handling and awesome manual tranny FR-S for my DD. She loves an auto (ignorance is bliss?) but I NEED a stick shift.

manual>everything else.
