the original replacement supercharges had the solid coupler, the new replacemnets have an upgraded bearing and a redesigned spring loaded coupler, yes the new ones rattle, after you have the new supecharger they are suppeosed to only change the front cover(aka the snout). but it will have a spring loaded coupler. change to the solid coupler the rattle will go away.

There is more to this supercharger nonsense that GM is not telling us.

Its not only the isolator, The isolator was fine on my replacement, it was the REAR bearings that was making the noise, that's why they gave me another one a week later.

The one I have now is noisy too but I didn't troubleshoot yet, don't know if its front or rear that's making noise.

Working with a friendly dealer, we did the SC replacement on an LSA rebuild just over a year ago. Quiet and flawless since.

I am hoping that the replacement supercharger for my car is in fact a new unit. I suppose only time will tell if I have any more issues after the repair.

Where is this coming from? I just replaced mine and it has the solid coupler.

All this supercharger problems we experience would most definitely discourage someone from even thinking about getting a ZL1.....they might as well go to the GEN6 and get a SS w/455HP and get just about the same performance levels.

It's sad that GM puts us thru this.

I asked this question just a moment ago on another thread: is there a better aftermarket supercharger that would suit the LSA and perform better than the Eaton unit on our cars?

+1

Had mine replaced in May by the dealer. It was a brand new unit with a solid coupler. Zero noise.

Magnuson Heartbeat, runs cooler, makes more power. They have special kit for the ZL1 at a lower price because it re-uses some of the parts already on it. Generally sold online about $6,500 MAG-01-23-62-158-BL

Thanks JusticePete! That just might be the best way to go in the long run. I'll have to wait and see if the new supercharger from GM has fixed the problem. If not, then down the road I just may get a Magnuson supercharger for my car.
