lol classic post. I definitely wish sometimes mine had a V8. Generally the wish isn't caused by speed or people giving me shit about my V6 but rather just the sound of the V8 that mine is missing. My camaro is definitely not quiet but it is missing the thunder of the V8.

I don't really look for justification of my purchase because at the time I bought mine I was fresh outta Grad School, living with my parents and making less than half of what I do now so I'm thankful I bought anything at all.

I would love to upgrade to a V8 now that I make more $$$, however, now I have two cars, an apartment, a dog, school loan payments, a house down-payment, and a GF of 6years who says her ring finger is cold lol. Funny how life changes so fast.

PS: this doesn't mean I've stopped looking for a 2011 SGM SS M6 just in case

I knew my pennies were going to go to the next of living, if I signed off on it. I didn't even know what a ZL1 was until I told the sales guy I was through with the Shelby. He directed me over to a fresh trade-in, we got in and I was sold... well, not on that particular one, but I searched long and hard after that and found my red hot vert.

So with all that being said, why didn't you go for a V8? Who buys a sports anything and gets the minimum? I'm not trying to be an asshole, I'm legitimately asking because it was only a matter of time before I would go into the V6 section and ask the same thing. There was another member who questioned their manliness because of a V6, but I didn't want to ask him because he was too depressing. I mean it's not like buying a sports bike, where you are expected to buy smaller and work your way up.
price was the reason and I never thought of buying a SS
I'm very happy with my V6

I'm 57 and bought my 1LT in November.
I DO drive the wheels off it.
I wanted a V6 because I wanted the mileage due to frequent 600 mile round trips to see my Mom AND I wanted my my payments reasonable..
I LOVE my car and am no where close to being "past the shenanigans!"

Enjoy your V6, there is no need to explain yourself. It's a beautiful car no matter what is under the hood.

1983
For the 1983 model year, all of the Camaro engines got a slight bump in power. The 4-cylinder engines jumped up to 92hp while the V6 was up to 107. The carbed V8 was up to 150hp and the fuel injected Camaro V8 was up to 175hp. More importantly, there was a new L69 5.0L V8 for 1983, which offered 190 horsepower.
1996
For the 1996 model year, the 3.4L V6 was gone and the 3.8L mill from the Californian 1995 Camaro was the standard engine around the country with 200hp and 225lb-ft of torque. Due to a new catalytic converter setup, the LT1 V8 also got a bump in power, now offering 285 horsepower and 325lb-ft of torque. There was also a Camaro SS package introduced in 1996, built by SLP, but available through Chevrolet dealerships. The Camaro SS still used the LT1 engine, but thanks to a ram air hood design and a freer flowing exhaust system, the SS package offered 310 horsepower.

2012
The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro V6 got an official bump in power to 323hp while having the same 278lb-ft of torque. The Camaro SS had the same L99 and LS3 engines, but there was a new V8 in the lineup, thanks to the arrival of the Camaro ZL1. The ZL1 featured the new supercharged 6.2L LSA V8 with 580 horsepower and 556lb-ft of torque, making it comfortably the most powerful production road-going Camaro ever.

Anything gm made performance wise in the 80s and 90s....except the GN was not at all interesting to me. Performance in general wasnt very good for a long time. Sure the v6 makes more power then those lean performance years but those years sucked . Im just waiting for the " my v6 makes more power then the old muscle cars" post. These type of threads always go the same direction......downhill. Enjoy what you have ...Dont give a rats ass what people think.

So what? You said it was false that previous generations V8's had less HP than a gen 5 V6. It's not false. It's completely true.
