The little tid-bits are nice in this thread, but can we can a sticky that's either a compiled advice thread or advice thread with the different options for storage? I want to store mine, but right now, I can't book a storage location for it (car storage is usually booked in advance here) and where I was initially planning on storing, the guy is going back on our deal.

So unless I can find some answers here: Like, if I have it sitting in the driveway (with Stabilizer in it), car cover on, and some answer for the battery, will the car be ok?

Otherwise, I'm going to have to find winters and steel rims to drive it when there's no snow (I have a winter beater for the bad days).

Anyone with direct answers to help me out can also PM me. Some help would be great.

Steps:

1) Make sure the gas tank is at about 1/2 and put seafoam in it, drive the car for 5 miles, than put Sta-Bil in the in the tank, drive to gas station, fill it up and take it home (or to storage location).

2) If the car is close to an oil change make sure you do it before storing the car, if you have more than a couple thousand miles left there is no need for it.

3) Clean the car and put a fit car cover on it (for garage storage) unless you are using a heated garage in which case you wouldn't need this. If you are storing it outside make sure you have a weatherproof car cover.

4) Either (a) hook up a battery tender or (b) disconnect the battery.

5) Not required but is good if you remove the wheels and leave the car on 4 jack stands (for indoor storage).

6) If using a battery tender start the car once every month for 10-15 minutes.

I went to hook up my battery tender and wasnt sure if I'm supposed to connect the negative to a ground in the trunk or the battery itself. Can someone explain or post a pic of where the connected the negative from the battery tender?

I would also like to see a sticky on this, maybe combining general storage/winter storage tips. That way it would all be in one place.

Hook up the tender under the hood. The provisions to do that are there. Eliminates the possibility of Hydrogen gas exploding.

Starting a stored car in the winter is the WORST thing you can do. It might make you feel good but it will not help your car.

Cold oil is like molasses and the cylinder walls will take a lot of abuse. Hide the Frigging keys. The condensation is another reason.

I only put about 1200 to 1500 miles a year on my 72 and at 83,000 the 1st start is to take it out for a minimum of 20 minutes after 6 months of storage.

Lift the hood on the 2010 AND CRANK IT OVER A FEW TIMES ....before lowering the hood and starting it. It will crank but not start if the DIC says hood open.

There are 2 other threads on this this week.
