I think their hands are tied on this one. I'm sure the local dealer is in no position to replace the outer top anyways. All I really care at this point is the wear hole in the top.. Sticks out like a sore thumb.
I'm just not gonna risk any further top damage. Sounds like the 5th bow will fail at some point also. Will follow the class-action suit and see how that goes. I'm already 1 year out of warranty so I don't think GM will get too excited about helping with a known issue.

Car is going into storage for the winter in a few weeks anyway. Will give me a few months to fix or sell.

Baba, as always - great post! Couldn't agree more, these are great cars - but like with almost all valuable things, need a bit of monitoring and TLC. Happens to be with our tops.

I've had wind noise in my vert for 3 years now, but virtually no top wear in 5+ years to speak of. Don't drive much with the top up, so not getting it adjusted for now. Maybe in a couple of more years, as its not affecting anything and I don't want to invite problems. Plus I'm kinda cheap (but never spare the $ on meaningful preventive maintenance).

Owning and driving a 5th gen vert *is* a lifestyle!

The location of the hole seems to line up with the lip on the rear passenger side well in which the top sits when it's retracted. This could very well have resulted from rubbing.

This is a well-documented potential issue with many 2011 and 1st half of MY 2012 convertibles, in particular.

If you conduct a search on the convertible forum with the terms "hole", "top", "top problems", "wear marks", "rub", "rubbing", "5th bow", "water" "drainage bags", you will find a fair number of threads referring to top and frame issues. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/search...rchid=35767745

From whom did you purchase your convertible? GM dealer or privately? If GM dealer, was it a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle? If CPO, address it with the service dept. / manager.

When was your convertible originally purchased? If in 2013, when? It may still be under the original bumper to bumper warranty and qualify for covered top repairs (service dept. will have this info).

The low mileage may aid in pressing the issue with GM if the dealer is unwilling to assist.

Is there any history of this vehicle having had top work performed on it? If it was serviced at or through a GM dealership's service dept., there should be a record of who, what, when and where. If top work was previously done and it was performed under the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty, was a letter issued by GM extending the (component) warranty on the top?

Has there been any water damage to the car? Check the battery well in the trunk, carefully and gently check under the front and rear carpets for musty odors, discoloration and possibly even rust(?).

If you don't seem to get anywhere with your selling dealer, contact GM directly.

There are MANY owners here who have a lot of knowledge and even first-hand experience with some of these issues and they will be more than happy to explain the issues and direct you to potential sources to help remedy your top problem(s).

Don't be discouraged. The 5th Gen. Camaro Convertible is an awesome car! Remember, driving a 5th Gen. convertible is not just "driving a Camaro", it's a lifestyle!

Please keep us posted as to your progress in getting this resolved.

Yep. Rubbed through on the right trunk lip. I can see where the material doesn't lay flat.

I think I have gone as far as I can with the local dealer. Will contacting GM even do anything at this point? I am 1 year out of the original warranty but only at 12K miles now. lol.

I dont think the original owner ever used the top...

Thanks OrangeVert. OP needs to get this taken care of by GM, if at all possible. Being referred by the dealer to a local upholstery shop to have the top patched is passing the buck. If the OP does that, he's on his own. Definitely needs to go through a Chevy / GM dealer and or GM directly. Once all avenues through dealer / GM have been exhausted, then, the OP can follow whichever route he deems the most effective in getting the top repaired on his own dime.

Thanks everyone for the advise. I really don't think I will get anywhere with this problem as the car is out of warranty and was sold by the dealer "as-is". At this point, I am selling my 1 week old RS. I traded in a perfectly good car for this and now it sounds like I will be dealing with headaches for years to come.

I really appreciate all of the help that everyone has done!
