Article update now states that the driver was a former Deputy. He should have known better. Very sad and unnecessary.

Loss of life is sad no matter what the circumstances are. RIP.

For all we know, his brakes did not work and he went around to avoid hitting the cars in front him.
*Not very likely*

The video with story is from another incident and not a Camaro.

The story is about the 65 year old retired deputy in a Camaro.

Unfortunately his impatience cost him his life, and it seems that running that risk was common at that intersection. They really ought to extend the barriers IMHO. Remove the temptation.

Probably if He/She had survived, His/Her explanation would be "The GPS told me to go that way around the cars...."

Hate to hear of people getting injured / killed, but goes without saying, even a retired deputy using his 'power' to go around the law. I see cops and law enforcement usually always breaking the speed limits, nothing against cops, just stating a fact

From the article:

Quote:
Witnesses told troopers the driver went around a line of vehicles that were stopped at the tracks and ignored the crossing signals, trying to cross before the train came through.
Assuming the witness reports were consistent, it really doesn't sound like a suicide. While I agree we can't always assume somebody's motive, this really does sound like a clear cut case of impatience. There's no mention of him intentionally stopping.

I would never try to race a train to the intersection , but let's be honest who among us has not done something risky or stupid on the road that could get us hurt , speeding on bad roads , passing when you can't see ,passing on the right , running a light ... I'm just sayin 'that I think out of respect as a fellow human and camaro driver maybe we shouldn't be too quick to call the guy an ignorant moron when some of us have done similar idiotic stunts out of impatience or neglect at one time in our lives that we normally wouldn't do .
