Exhaust .. agreed ... can be fixed pretty quick though with an aftermarket unit. The shifter isn't too bad, but I just went to an MGW shifter, so that can be fixed as well.

Just stick with it and mold the car to what you want it to be.

Agreed, the SS is an awesome place to start for a sick street rod, the wife and I have every intention on making it what we think it should be. All in all big kudos for chevy having the stones to put it out there, pretty bold move

I mean hell we paid for the car and we have an opinion, this would be the place to voice it. There are a few things I will change, but over all I really like the car, and it's really hard to complain about 426 HP

It seems like for the 'average Joe' the car is great. But I could probably say that this first year production car is most likley going to be a project/daily driver car where we can set out minds freeeeeeeee.

Ok, first off I LOVE my car, but some of you're points are on. We are still in the initial stage of the release, as with the Mustang when they first released the retro body style you had the GT and the 6 cyl. They've had years to release all the special models. GM did it right with this car to make money. It has good performance but is still very livable on a daily basis, the understeer was engineered into the car because it's much easier to recover from for inexpierenced drivers when pushing the limits. The suspension is softer because as much as a lot of us like feeling the road, there a lot more that don't. They body has some roll to keep the majority of people from pushing the limits to begin with as that scares people into slowing down. The exhaust was made to be livable as well, they now have the GMPP exhaust for those of us who like it a little louder. Hopefully the GMPP options will be in full swing next year. GM needs to cater to the masses to make money. The special editions will follow. According to most of the comparisons the Mustang GT usually only beats it in handling with the track pack, which I would be willing to bet GM will come out with an equivelent package as some point. As far as all the smaller things, you may get used to them or GM will make changes in the coming years after getting feedback, just like most first year cars there will be changes.

Actually, this feature was noticed and highly commended by several people who have seen my car. They think it looks far and away more "upscale" than the cheap plastic hooks that most cars have for this purpose.

I don't recall mine ever coming open when I didn't want it to either, so I don't know if the complaint is based on experience or an expectation it will eventually come open at some point.

First let me say I am used to driving a Shelby GT, the car was MADE for racing. The car feels like a muscle car through and though. The sound, the feel, the way it distributes power, everything… just a fine car.
With the SS, I have had it 3 days and have found myself annoyed as hell a ton of times already. Just to name a few things… the handles to close the doors were made for a child’s fingers , the seat belt strap that keeps the belt off your neck comes unsnapped at the slightest pull, all the controls for the radio and air are attention consuming, the dual action buttons for the radio are dumb as hell, the shifter feels sloppy as all get out, the stock exhaust is too quiet for a car like this, the word I have used to describe this car over and over is “fluffy” everything about it (besides outside styling) is soft. If I would liken it to something outside the car world I would say it’s like the experience you get camping with a bag on the ground in the mountains under the stars (Mustang) versus taking a travel trailer out to a camp ground, with satellite TV, and a bathroom (Camaro), it is all about what you prefer and I am a full experience kind of guy.
With all that said it is a good car with decent power, with a few mods it will be the fire breathing monster I expected it to be. I will start with catbacks, springs, shifter, and then next spring (when the sun comes back to WA) I will go for some of the bigger stuff like S/C. I love the tire/brake package, this morning in the rain the SS did FAR better than the Shelby does in the rain.
I don’t mean to offend anyone out there, I just wanted to get that off my chest, and see if any of you had the same experience.
When the sun comes back. You're saying it was ever there in the first place?

I went into the miltary from Lacy.

Anyway, I agree with you on all of this exept the door handle, seat belt strap, radio and air controls, shifter, and exhaust.

Shelby GT $50k
Camaro 2SS $38k (FULLY LOADED)

You are comparing what? Compare a Mustang GT to an SS and get back to me. In order to debate accurately, at least get your priorities straight.

Oh wait..what about the GT and the base V6?

This post is a perfect candidate for a VISA "priceless" commercial.

And I agree with PQ...plus some.

I am investing $12k in my 2SS and I bet I will whoop up on any Shelby GT out there. The Shelby has to be stock. Put me on "Pinks".

I have heard that the exhaust gets louder with time I will just help it along with some catbacks.
I plan on replacing mine as well, however i had a bit of a salary decrease this year, so that will have to wait till next year.

Love the way it looks, but it won't stay secured. Is there a special dance or chant I've got to do to get it to stay in place?

Shelby GT only costs mid $30k's. Youre thinking of the GT500.

Replace it with an electro magnet, guarantee it won't move till you turn the power off

now go get that SC
