OP if you want it to last for the rest of your life that's easy. Drink lots of beer, eat crappy food and never exercise or take up bungie jumping.....and it might easily outlive you LOL. Admittedly probably not the most desirable approach to achieving your goal.

I would say as others keeping up maintenance , fluids etc. and keeping it protected from winter salts is a big one too. These GM motors can go a long time by all accounts.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. Yea, I hadn't thought about the computers being an issue. Eh, worst case scenario it wears out and I find a nice used Corvette to replace it. haha It's a shame though, they did a pretty good job with the Camaro SS, 2011-2014 Mustang GT, Challenger/Charger R/T's. It's nothing like seeing those big steel bodied monsters from the '60s and '70s at car shows but it gives a little taste of what it must have been like.

having owned a couple of those old big bodied steel monsters i think rust is the worst enemy.engines,transmissions,etc. can be rebuilt.my sons 1993 honda del sol is still on the original motor with 280,000 miles on it,no rust issues either.he had to send the computer to michigan to be rebuilt a couple of years ago,and its been reupholstered but it looks and runs real good.

The only thing I worry about is the Infotainment System. It's the great unknown in cars since they started going mainstream in 2012-13. So the older systems are 4-5yrs old and with technology things always become obsolete. The engine is not a worry if maintained, oil at 5K for synthetic blend, or yearly for the low milage cars. How long the 5th Gens will last is an interesting thought if well cared for. At least there are catalogs of parts for the future.

I have a 32 year old Buick I use 6 months & is babied. The 80s cars were the beginning of disposable cars. So I'm testing the limits, intake manifold leak currently, stored till repaired.

When properly maintained, I have found Chevy engines & vehicles overall to be very reliable. Have put over 200k on a couple and sold/traded them in still running & looking great. My 2006 Corvette currently has over 90k miles on it and, in addition to being one of the most maintenance free vehicles I've ever owned, it still runs as good as it did new.

+1...Just passed on to my eldest son a '85 Monte Carlo SS fully restored original motor 185,000 and he drives it like it's brand new...Was going to will it to him, but I plan to live a little longer, so I wanted to see if he would appreciate it as much as I did/have, so far he's done a excellent job in maintaining it...Just as everything in life that we have come to enjoy, if you take care of it, it will last...If you take care of the pennies the dollars will take care of themselves...
