I wonder - could the dealer get in any trouble slipping one of these onto every new car before giving it to the customer? Or maybe a "skip-shift" fairy walking around under the cars in the delivery truck disabling them?

Skipshift is a real killjoy, it scares me to think that a majority of people are driving around with it still enabled.

I have a confession: Skipshift got me once - just once - I had it disabled within 20 hours of taking delivery. . .

yeah skipshift is a pain, it got me twice. First time I was in the middle of an intersection wondering WTF is going on, by the time I realized what had happened I had to go back into 1st, cause I don't think 4th would get me moving much at 2 mph! It is a distraction that is dangerous. However it does save you some coing when buying the car, so luckily it is cheaply and easily disabled!

Is it the connector near the cross-brace under the car or further forward?

There is a brass plug on the left side of the transmission. the plug is about 1/2 way on the transmission. Reach up above the plug and the harness attaches in there. I had to get a friend with small hands to do mine.
Hope this gives an idea where to look. I go my skip shift from here. Works great and the price was fair also.

Judging by the pictures it is the connector that is almost on the top of the transmission. My question is does everyone have small hands or am I looking at the wrong one? I can't wedge my hands up there to get it!! The other one (behind the transmission) is easier to get to but I believe its the wrong one.

Going to try it again even if it makes my hands bleed grr. Does it just pull off or do you need to squeeze or pull up on the tab? I wish my girlfriend would help me as none of my friends have small hands either. lol

The connector has a locking tab. I take a long flat blade screw driver and pop the locking tab open, while holding the connector with the other hand. Sneak a skinny screw driver blade in there and twist, give the wires a tug and it will pop right open. A little ointment and a couple bandaids and your done!

Easiest way to find it -

On the driver's side of the trans, toward the back. Find the aluminum tab with a hole in it that sticks off the side of the trans. Nothing is in the hole. It's just a cast in tab used for assembly cast into the side of the trans case. Above that tab with a hole in it is the Skip Shift solenoid and connector.

It's actually fool proof. There are two - two pin connectors. If you did the wrond one, you won't be able to go into reverse. If you still have reverse, your golden.

You won't be missing any parts. Just unplug it and plug the connector from the wiring harness back into the transmission connector. Then locate the other two wire connector (sorta hidden above the 4-wire connector), unplug it and install the skip shift eliminator between these two ends.

There is an easier way, simply rev a little higher in first and you will never have to worry about the skip-shift. Just make a habit of shifting out of first at about 2,500 RPM's. That's it. You don't even have to look at the tach, just listen to the engine.
