Years ago (1981) I had a '72 El Camino that was mint. I parked it way out at the mall, no cars for 100 spaces probably. I came out and there was a beat up sedan parked like 2" off my front bumper. I got in my car backed it up and took my tire iron to his headlights, not sure how he got home that night and didn't care. Of course back then there were not video cameras and the stuff we have now !!!

I would love to create a device that would spray paint when impact is detected. The nozzle would point out. when they hit my car with their door, not only would it spray their car door, they would get sprayed too.

Bigbass, I would say you have the makings of a much needed invention.

I hollered at the ass, and the jackwad stood up. It took him a little while to figure out that wedging your door up against another car is NOT cool. However, he wordlessly eventually pulled his car door away from mine.

Yup... deep gouges.

I was a little more hotheaded back than, and I've had already unsuccessfully tried to recover damages before, from a similar experience. I was cynical about getting this paid for, and I was pretty ticked off. I saw no point in even trying to get compensated, so instead, I "slammed my door open," ramming it into HIS car door. I did it over, and over, and over, and over. My point was very clear... and so was the new dent in his door.

Sure, not the responsible thing... not mature, not levelheaded, and even damaged my own door just a little more.

But SO worth it.
this, but when i was younger i would have used his head to pound the dents into his car.

Today went much better than Saturday. After obtaining two estimates from first class shops I telephone the owner of the vehicle that caused the damage. He was actually very nice, apologized for his brother's stupidity. The driver told me he did not know his brother hit my car with the door, I believe he didn't. Owner told me that is insurance company (USAA) was waiting for me to call in. I called and told them I had obtained two estimates, they never asked which if the least expensive, they told me to select the one I wanted! Cost of the quarter size ding is $601.00. Camaro will go into the body shop on Monday August 14th, will be there three maximum four days, USAA authorized a rental car also. I am thrilled that it is working out though I wish it never had happened. I just keep thinking, if I had been another 15seconds behind I would have missed the entire event. This is the first time in life I have actually caught someone in the act.

...getting involved...

Awhile back, I had just parked on the third line at a Taco Bell at Chesapeake Square. I was consulting my itinerary when a sudden movement to my left caught my eye. A middle-age white couple was in their very ordinary vehicle less than three feet from a blue sporting looking automobile. I knew then they had backed into the vehicle behind them. Did anyone see them? They began to pull away. I immediately exited my Honda something and began to deliberately record their license plate to paper. They drove away.
Walking into Taco Bell, I announced in my best imitation of a Ft. Leonardwood drill instructor, "Alright, people listen up! Who owns the blue sports car parked out front?"
A middle-aged white guy looking very much retirement age looked at me with apprehension, knuckles going white against his tray. The black kid standing next to him was going eyes white (I am not making this up).
"Me...."
"Someone backed into you. I did get his plates as he drove away."
"Sh#t!!!!!!", as he tried not to throw his tray.
The sports car turned out to be a brand new 2006 Corvette. The owner had bought it as his retirement reward. And he had less than 500 miles on her.

I truly dont understand why people pull into an empty lot and then find the nicest performance vehicle and then park inches away from it.

It also doesnt help that as vehicles got bigger parking spots got smaller and in some cases even if both partys are parked centered between the lines there still isnt enough space to open either door without hitting the car next to you.

I am so anal about where I park and making sure I NEVER hit someones car with my door, I only wish everyone else was as considerate....
My ding is on the passenger side and it's probably a good thing I didn't see or catch the person that did it, it wouldn't have ended well

PS
Hats off to you Scalded Dog

I park both my Camaro and my Impala SS so far out and away from the people that the wife will say to me, "what are you going to do now call a taxi?" I keep telling her the world if full of people that just don't give a shit about how nice your car is. Low and behold several times I have come out only to find that some anal watt has just parked so close to me that you have a difficult time getting into your car. Then you look around and there are hundreds of empty spots all around your vehicle, why? I am so thankful I caught this watt in the act of damaging my Camaro. There is NO DOUBT he knew exactly what he had done. I saw him look down as I was screaming, when he was pulling the door back you could actually hear the scraping, he then entered the rear passenger door of the car he was in and shut the door. Saw the driver start to put his vehicle in drive... NOPE, not on my watch. I also saw that most inconsiderate passenger come out of that car quickly.

I am extremely thankful that she is going into the body shop Monday. I know she will look perfect again.

I agree with you 100% regarding the size of today's parking spaces, like everything else they too are small. On the other hand we all know there is no fix or medication that is going to cure "stupid".

This morning at 0900 I dropped my Camaro off at the body shop, was told she would be completed by NLT Thursday, I am happy she will be back to her flawless state once again.

We have three vehicles 2017 RAV4, 2014 Camaro and a 1996 Impala SS, I think the wife's RAV4 is the only one that JUST hit 10,000 miles. Yup that's right the 96 is just over 9,000 as the Camaro. There is not a scratch on any of the three, well that will be true come Thursday.

I am getting along in years (later sixties) and have refused to get a cellular telephone. I fought this hard, since the Camaro got dinged I decided I NEEDED a cell phone. Especially for calling the police, taking pictures of the other vehicle's registration plate and so on.

Wishing you all the very best.

Back in the mid 90's I had a 1978 Corvette Pace car that had under 20k miles and was flawless. I only took it to controlled places as I was always worried about damage. So this trip I took it to Newport RI. Beautiful sunday afternoon, I found a spot with plenty of room parked my car walked 5ft away and sat on the wall in front of my car facing it and enjoyed the weather and sights! Fast forward 15 mins later a person walks out and goes to get in his car swings his door wide open and it bounces off my door and then proceed to get in his car and start up his engine to leave, mind you I am 5 feet away. I get up go over to his car and prevent him from leaving we get out and look at my car which is missing a small chunk of fiberglass. He offers me $20 to fix it. Needless to say his insurance company got involved and $2000 later the issue was fixed. I could still see if everytime I washed it so it was sold a few weeks later

I am shocked at how little people care about things like this. I know dent wizard does great things but who wants the hassle. MAke a mistake and own it if not Karma will bite your ass 10 fold down the line!!

Back when I was 16 or 17 (early 90's), my first car was a '83 S-10 Blazer. My parents and I went in halves and got it painted an awesome metallic blue. I loved it. About a month later, I parked at school and would normally sit in my Blazer for a while listening to music before going into school. So that one morning I'm sitting there just hanging out and a big huge hooptie parks next to me. It was a priest that works at my school (it was a Catholic school). He opens the door and BAM, right into my nice new paint. He got out and closed his door and started to walk away like nothing happened. Now I'm not proud of what I did next and probably going to he11 for it, but I got out and started yelling at him. Said he was going to fix it weather he has money or not, and that he is a priest and should have more respect than that. And I stormed off. When I got home, my mom called me into her bedroom and said "What in the world did you say to Father at school today?!? He called and said you were very upset and that he would help fix your car." Then I felt horrible. Luckily the paint place gave me free touch up paint and I was able to touch it up myself. Wasn't perfect, but good enough for a 7 or 8 yr old blazer.
