The question seems to be why I expect them to fix it for free. Let's focus on the word free for a moment. Free dictates that this is getting repaired at no cost to me, which is wrong, and here is why. I pay a monthly bill to the sum of $470 a month to purchase this Camaro. When I purchased a brand new car, one would expect for the RADIO to work for longer than 1 and a half years. Now let's break this down further. Two people both buy a brand new Camaro, both drive that camaro yet 1.5 years down the road, only 1 of the owners has a busted radio, now who's fault is it if both vehicles suffered the same wear and tear, yet only one breaks down? Is it the owner's fault for treating their car as intended? Or is it the factory's fault for installing a flawed product on one of the two Camaros.

Now you assume I want something for free, yet I have already stated, I have paid for this camaro, I have paid for this camaro under the expectation that all the parts on this camaro are in working order. The blank screen on in my car shows that to not be the case. So, here I am, out my monthly fee, for a car that has not even lasted 2 years before something breaking on it. I will point out, no accidents, just driving it to work and back. Yet, you seem hell bent on blaming me for this, explain how I am at fault for the radio failing me? Explain to me how it's my fault or that i want something for free when I have, in fact, paid for this radio, and that said radio hasn't even lasted a full 2 years? Yet you want to blame me? And before anyone starts ranting about the 1 year warranty, let me ask you this, how many of y'all buy new car with the full expectation that some part of the car is going to just stop working within the first 2 years? If a car salesman told you verbatim "hey this car's steering wheel is going to stop functioning after 2 years " would you still buy that car? No! you wouldn't! you buy that new car expecting for those parts to be in working order within the foreseeable future.

And I will put this out there. I did purchase the extended warranty, and no it doesn't cover the repairs to the mylink.

Not that it is your business, but what have I done to try and rectify this? I have called, the dealer, I have called Chevrolet themselves, I have called onstar and have even spent countless hours researching on a way to fix it myself. All have come up fruitless. In fact both the dealer and Chevrolet, have stated " they fully understand my position" in this case but there was nothing they could do outside of cover part of the cost. This is unacceptable when the company has installed a faulty part in my car, that I paid good money for. The company should be the one to step up and make things right. Me, the customer whom has done nothing but buy a car and drive it, is not the one at fault.

Here's the deal, you claim for ever one there are tens of thousands that have not failed, does that excuse Chevrolet from the few whom have suffered from the failure?
Hey now, once you start airing out your laundry in public, it's pretty much everyone's business at that point. If you don't want anyones opinions or help, keep YOUR business to YOURself.

I'll buy another Chevy after the crappy Dodge POS we own. Unfortunately, we'll probably own another Chrysler van because we need the Sto N Go seats.

My issue with Chevy is finding a dealer that's not full of retards. How about IQ testing for potential new hires?

OK, I read your previous posts. You are over the bumper-to-bumper warranty and I think you have an extended warranty. Unless you get the BEST extended warranty, things like radio aren't usually included.

If the dealer knew you very well, they can often get this covered as a customer loyalty thing... which looks like you tried and they said no.

Sounds like you didn't read the fine print on your extended warranty. Or you need to read it to see if it's covered or not.

If not covered, I would just get a used screen (it comes with the buttons and bezel). It's pretty easy to install. If I recall, there's a few screws and it pulls out. Undo the connector and pop it back in. New I think the screen is $600.

Just because you are still making car payments on the vehicle does not entitle you to having every problem repaired. If you purchased the vehicle new and the warranty has expired, its your responsibility. If you didn't like those terms then perhaps you should have considered a kia with a 10 year warranty. We purchase things all the time with the knowledge that something could break. That's life. But our subjective expectations do not determine reality.

We see this more and more where people simply cannot accept responsibility even after they have signed a contract and should be aware of what is and is not their responsibility. When they don't get their way, they began throwing a fit and listing multiple irrelevant reasons as to why they are correct and the paper they originally signed is no longer applicable.

And notice that Chevy is apparently offering some assistance in this when they are apparently under no legal obligation to do so and that isn't enough for the customer. Very unfortunate.

Speaking of dirty laundry, I had a sewer line back up and overflow in the yard for TWO WEEKS before we noticed it. It was 100+ degrees most of those days. I paid $195.00 for a plumber to remove a small root clump in about 10 minutes. He left me with the pile of "debris" to deal with.

Sometimes you pay, wear your big boy pants AND put on your waders! Life can be pretty crappy! Sorry for the non-Camaro rant...

C5 love! And it helps us all out when fixes get reported for the next person researching the same issue.

Hopefully OP will get his fixed and let us know.

Wow chevy owners quality expectations are really not very high. There should not be a quality concern that hasnt been rectified properly on a 3 year old car. You can make all the macho comnents you want but if any of you (including me ) wete having this issue you would all be singing the same tune.Op contact GM with your concern and lack of resolution and see what they will do for you.

I get the frustration with this and agree that this type of component shouldn't fail after only a little after 3 years. Unfortunately, it is what it is and you may be on the hook for this.

GM really does need to do better though as these kinds of things damage the brand. Expectations are high and they should be. Case in point, I have a 2004 Monte Carlo, low miles. I know it is 13 years old but I have had to pull the dash twice, once to replace the stepper motors on all the gauges and a second time to replace the turn signal / multifunction switch because the lights just randomly go out when you use the high beams.

Now the turn signals will occasionally not work, which you can fix by cycling the hazard switch on an off. Another dash pull in my future most likely.

If I had taken these to the dealer or mechanic we are looking at $1000+. Again, I get the car is 13 years old but my 2005 Toyota with 3x the miles has none of these problems. I think quality has improved at GM but come on, seriously? These are things that should just work. I love my Camaro and Chevy in general but they do have to realize you only get so many chances before you lose customers to another brand.

If you're under the 3yr bumper-to-bumper warranty, then yes everything should be covered. Outside of that and, as frustrating as it may be, you're SOL unless you can find a dealer that wants to try and do you a favor. That said, and I don't mean to say you are this, but this rant sounds like something an entitled millennial would spat off. Again, not saying you are, but that's how your rant comes across.

You've owned (2) different Camaro's that had the screen fail outside of the warranty period? I can see how that would be frustrating, but it is what it is. Kicking and screaming isn't going to change anything as I don't think many other manufacturers would agree to replace it either.

If you want dependability buy German or Japanese. If you want speed, buy French or Italian.

If you want affordable fun, cool factor, good looks, semi comfortable and questionable dependability, buy American.

(If you want all the above, buy a Tesla). LOL

OP, can you elaborate on the fact that two screens have failed. Did they both fail in the same way? Was there no resolution with either screen from GM? Have there been any modifications to the MyLink system done? I ask this because I have not heard of many issues with MyLink, and yet it has happened to you twice.

I think it is mis-leading to call statements that simply reflect reality, "macho". I have had several circumstances where items have broken shortly after their warranty period. As I'm sure we all have. Whether it is a TV, electronics of some type or a myriad of other things. An expressed warranty is just that. The manufacturer makes their warranty clear and beyond that, they are no longer obligated. That's life. The purchaser at that point is at the mercy of whomever manufactured the item for any type of coverage but they have no right to demand it be repaired. As a previous post stated, that is simply entitlement.
