congrats! I remember reading your older posts that you were moving from Hawaii to the northeast and was wondering about driving the Camaro in the snow. What did you ever decide?

Baltimore it is! I did some more sleuthing and since I'm running all-season tires I think I'll be alright...from what I saw my area doesn't snow alot, and if it does it's usually cleaned up.quick.

So, RDP (DynoSteve) is suggesting keeping it at around 3000 since I might do gears in the future...

I love having so many opinions, but I don't at the same time.

I would trust his advice and he will get any future work on my car. Now, as for the weather, eee gads! It's not the weather or the cleanup..it's all the MORONS that have no clue on how to drive in the snow...they either go way to fast or wayyyyy to slow...both cause their own probs...safe travels...

So...

I emailed Precision Industries about their suggestion for a stall and they are saying 2600-2800....wow..

And got a response from FTI...3200.

Looks like 3200 is the most common suggestion I'm seeing.

i think IMPERIALBLUE2SS had the best recommendation. Wait till you get the cam. The cam profile will require a specific stall speed of the converter.

I have a stock motor with just bolt ons' (no internal mods), and added a Circle D 3200 stall several months ago. I daily my car.

The stall is great at the strip with my MT ET street R 18"'s on. On street tires I do nothing but spin if I punch the gas.

If your not planning on taking your car to a dragstrip, and putting drag radials on, I wouldn't put a stalled converter in, unless you like spinning your tires.

Joe, that's not what I want to hear. :( I was hoping I would have some traction still...

I was considering running drag radials in the summer months and then switching back to the stockers for winter though...

Sorry, but I have to tell you the truth. I actually do run "Drag Radials", though they aren't "real" drag radials. Nitto 555R 275/40/20.

I've had these on my car for about a year now. 15-20 passes at the dragstrip, and around 3k miles, also with some burnout practice.

Some users have reported 10k miles on them. One of mine is almost gone and the other is 1/2 way through the wear indicator.

I went ahead and got some 18" wheels (C6 replica on E-bay) and MT ET Street R tires for the dragstrip early last fall, as I read in Pro Stock John's (a forum member and writer for Super Chevy) Mods for the masses that after putting a Circle D 3200 stall in his L99, he couldn't get any traction at the strip with the 20" NT555R's anymore.

I only run the MT's at the strip, and wont be putting 555R's again on for the street. I have NT 555G2 on the front, so will put these on rear for the street. I'm not concerned with hooking up on the street though, as I don't drive aggressively on the street, just at the dragstrip.

If your not planning on drag racing your car, a Circle D pro series would be the wrong one to get. They have a basic converter which costs about 1/2 as much. When I spoke with Chris @ Circle D before I bought mine, this was the first one he discussed with me. It wouldn't have the performance of the pro series at the strip, so I went with the pro series. City gas mileage is horrible with it. 10 mpg. But I knew this would happen.

The 555R's hooked decent on the street until they became worn, and I suppose they would have lasted longer with no trips to the dragstrip, and practicing burnouts.

Your shift points will need to be changed after installing a torque converter. Steve @ RDP did mine, and did a good job via the SCTX4. The original tune had to be adjusted, so I had to log some passes at the strip, after logging he sent me a revised tune, which had all shift points perfect, and netted a gain of 3.5 tenths in the 1/8th mile.

A torque converter is one of the best mods you can do for an automatic.
