If you're untuned and no rear sensors, I can almost guarantee it's running rich, which would definitely quiet it down a little - but not like stock - no way.

I didn't say it would run lean. I said it would run leanER. There is a difference.
Adding headers improves the engines ability to move air. When that is done the computer adapts. In closed loop it tweaks the amount of fuel it supplies based on feedback from the upstream 02's. While cruising, in closed loop, its not a big change. Go WOT though, and the computer goes into the VE table (fixed calibration) to fuel the engine. At that point the motor is flowing more air than it did without the headers, but the fuel is still the same. Under those conditions, the computer cannot help but run the engine a little leanER. It's still not LEAN, as that is an A/F ratio over 14.7:1. It is simply leanER than stock. Last edited by Reichler; 12-05-2017 at 08:14 AM. |
