weight is an issue but shouldn't be as big of one as you are making it out to be. believe me I'm a little sad but not shocked at the weight numbers. there are so many things you can do that will save weight and honestly be able to lose down to the 3600-3700 lbs for the V-8. but it requires research and spending money. but yea wait till monday.

Cubanaso, no anger involved, I'm as opinionated as the next guy...lol. But I do work as an engineer that has to deal with weight budgets every day. I know how hard and time consuming it can be to hit the taget weight. If you spend to much time and effort on these with out compromise the developmental cost start rising real fast. Guess what..... those cost trickle down to the customer. Not a game I'm playinhg at all, just a real understanding on how the engineering world crosses up with the end user. I don't know how you could think GM took a lazy approach when its taken how many YEARS to bring this car back??? At some point you have to lock down the design and move on to the production issues and that time has come and GM is moving forward. Just wanted you to know where I'm coming from, no anger and I assure you I'm relaxed and cool as a cucumber.

^LOL, yeah I didn't think you where angry just wanted to make sure you knew neither was I.

I understand what you are saying and I don't work for GM so I realize it's just an outsiders view with no data other than my opinion.

I know it's not easy, but if it does cost more than we would like, it weighs more than we'd like, it's not as fuel efficient as we'd like, and for a good number the interior is not as we would like either then that probably would hurt sales for GM.

I realize it's a sports car, and back in the rx8club forum they constantly did not like folks complaining about fuel economy (it's a sports car...yada yada yada) but with gas so high even sports cars need to pay attention to this issue because if they don't they will suffer in sales and we all will lose the love of our lives, the sports car.

WITH THAT SAID!!!! Maybe MT does not know what it's talking about, maybe all this pre-info is way off and on Monday we will all be filled with smiles. For MY sake, I can't speak for everyone else but for me I hope it can get at least 27mpg in the highway with the new EPA numbers so I can consider this lovely beast instead of having to let it go and be stuck with some FWD I-4 #)%(#&*%)#(*#)$(*...ummm, car.

I love the look, GM did a GREAT GREAT JOB WITH IT!!! If you look up badass in the dictionary, this car should be the picture associated with it.

2009 Automotive dictionary

BADASS, the 2009 CHEVY CAMARO, to rule over the competition, to inspire fear just by your presence, to make grown men lust after something other than woman, to inspire a new generation

DEFICIENT, anything competing with the 2009 CHEVY CAMARO, to be unable to roam the streets without looking over your shoulder, to dream a world without the 2009 Chevy Camaro, to strive to lead but constantly be less than the 2009 Chevy Camaro, to be LESS than the 2009 Chevy Camaro (see also impotence)

LOL, so yes...I love the look and know GM's engines are great but I just hope the devil in the details does not stick a pitch fork into my heart's dream to own this beast (honestly, I fear he is grabbing for the pitch fork as we speak) BUT WE SHALL SEE TOMORROW!

Oh, and if the new EPA numbers are even 26mpg that still would be 4 more mpg in the highway than my RX8 so I'd still consider it, baring how much space is in the back seats and how much it cost to join the ranks.

Sadly, I use to drive 16 miles a day for work but now I'm driving 60-62 per day so I need a high highway fuel economy number.

lol...

im not too concerned about the weight... for 2 reasons .

Mustang is Weak.

Chally is a Whale.

That being said, im already picking out lightweight racing rims and carbon fiber parts.

I gotta agree with Cubanaso on all parts. If those weight numbers are accurate, that is a problem. Also, all the talk of "premium" and "upscale" really has me worried about pricing. Its bad enough that all cars are more expensive due to rising material costs. Adding even more to that could be a big problem. I know this is all unofficial, but it does raise some legitimate concerns. Will I still get a Camaro? No question there. But there might be some things I'm not happy about.

LOL, if those numbers where real...anyone buying one would be wise to follow suit. We shall see, I wish I didn't work Monday so I could watch.

I think people may be reading the article wrong.

"We've actually challenged ourselves to go upscale in sticker price and performance, to go after anything that could be called this segment-Mustang, Charger, Challenger. We're shooting for targets a lot higher in terms of sticker price," he says.

I think what he's saying is that they want this Camaro to compete with cars that are priced higher, not that he is bragging that the Camaro is going to cost a lot (which doesn't make any sense).

And of course, although it has been said many times in this thread already, lets wait until Monday before we flip out about any numbers.

that is what i was also thinking about. carbon fiber is the sh*t. it will only be a matter of time before you can get a hood and trunk lid, and that alone should save a lot weight.

A 2 inch drop and 2 inch spacers on the fronts and rears will make the stance perfect... 9" isn't really as wide as i'd like, but i love those rims so the spacers will have to do the trick!

Oh yeah, I know...I didn't take it the other way actually. I know that is what he is saying, but the worry I think is that might give them a reason to overprice the Camaro.

BUT, let's wait till tomorrow...it's coming!!!!

25hp difference? I'd expect that to cut down the number of SS automatics that hit the street. That just doesn't sit well with me. I hope MT is wrong.

Same with the V6 only rear decklid spoiler. If that's true, GM better keep a lot of them in stock for those that want to buy it after.
