Where was the space that you ran the wires from driver to passenger side through?

It just behind the center console - I used a rod to find my through - not very easy- It was obstructing on the console on the drivers side - i had to reach in and grab it

the picture shows the wires just over the top of the plastic

I then took the wires and fed them over a u shaped bracket under the steering wheel - you can just see in the next pic

there has got to be a way to hook into a fuse or something closer, I'll have to look in the manual and see what I can find.

I looked all over for this fuse and couldn't find it. I used this fuse tap idea for my escort radar detector, even then, after a couple of days I tapped into one of the wires in the headliner (another thread on that.) Bottom line is there is no (at least I couldn't find it) connection to the dome light, nor a 12v pick up that comes on with the ignition within the fuse box, only permanent. I tapped directly in the dome light, looks like TonyNo found the wire under the dash -well done!

Can you set this up to come on when the dome light is on and to keep them on with the a switch?

If you wire it to the fuse like the other DIY indicates, when you turn on your dome light, the floor lights also go on, and stay on. That's the way mine work. it's a VERY easy mod!
