Hi Matrix, I'll try that. Maybe that's the trick. I do remember an errant "playlist" folder that may have trickled onto those drives. I'll let everyone know if that was the problem.

The interesting thing is that the same flash drive that works appears to be a high-speed drive vs. the other ones. I have not found anything in the manual that mentions some kind of limitation on speed/quality. The songs are the same songs on all three, they are formatted the same (FAT32/4kb), and I've tried both wma and mp3 formats. Any idea of what's going on here, or is this just something that should be in the manual (i.e. to use only high speed media)??
Generic USB drives should work fine. Stay away from Corsair Flash Voyager minis. They will not work consistently for more than 1 minute.

Corsair drives are not an issue. I know this with 100% certainty - the drive that works is a Corsair Flash Voyager.

The mini drives do NOT work. The Flash Voyager standard size USB drives work just fine.

Update....

Ok, so not having anything other than MP3's on the drive is still not working. Also, I only have a couple of hundred songs on the drive at this point (can't keep waiting to format/copy files a thousand at a time). I think I had about 600 songs on the drive that worked.

It seems to me that the only differentiator is the speed of the drive. The drive that works is my flash drive that is "Readyboost" compatible, while the other two are not. I don't want to carry it around back and forth between home and car and just keep it in the car, so it's a bit of a disappointment - I bought the other two drives just for this purpose.

Chump change (especially after spending $29k on a car), but at the same time before I go out and needlessly beg the wife for a few bucks and waste money yet again, I would rather nail down the issue first and get what I need & works. I mean, I don't want to end up with a pile of USB sticks that don't work for their intended purpose. I don't really need these for anything else, just more clutter between the couch pillows.

Maybe we should start a list of what works and what doesn't - so that others can benefit from our experiences.

WORKS: FLASH VOYAGER (Rubber body/ Black & Blue) 8Gb (readyboost ready)

FAILS: KINGSTON Datatraveler (pivot cover body) 8Gb

I have another one not working, left it in the car. Will add it to the list once I get a hold of it. DARNNNN!!!!
