165mph in testing. That was maxing out 4th gear with our Stage III 427 Nickey Super Camaro.

What this guy said is true. I've had my Camaro up to about 105, but mostly keep it below 80. I've driven other stock Camaros on a track up to around 145 before lifting and it wasn't the speed that scared me off. Believe me, I wanted to push it further and the engine had more since the electronic limiter was disengaged, but it was starting to become very challenging driving experience and I backed off. I've driven NASCAR stockers well above these speeds and had fun because they were set up for it. I can't imagine anything above 160 being any fun at all in anything close to a stock Camaro.

If you want to go this fast, build a purpose built race or drag car and keep it on the track. If this is your daily or weekend driver, I have one question to ask. Why would you want or need the ability to go this fast?

I don't want sky high insurance... have not been above 85 yet. I'd love to open her up on a track though!

Not true! I have 500rwhp (all motor) and I have had mine up to 178mph (GPS verified) and it was still pulling, I just ran out if runway . HP is plentyful, my wifes 07 Audi RS4 has only 420 crank hp and reaches 170 easily (with AWD that creates a lot of drag), and it has alot more frontal area then the Camaro.

I went 164mph in the standing mile as well several times.

Here are two vids from the standing mile

Only went 158mph in this vid due to a strong headwind

I had the car up to 158mph completely stock, with the limiter removed and it was very stable. But once we put the suspension on the car it became a lot more stable and is perfectly comfortable at those speeds.

You do realize that at those speeds, the amount of resistance you are getting is exponentially multiplied, right? While it might only take 500rwhp to do 178, it could take 700rwhp to hit 185mph. I'm sure some math whiz could spell it out for you, but getting 1mph more out of a car at speeds upwards of 160mph in a car with as much frontal area as the Camaro can take some serious rwhp increases.

Yes Sir, very much so!

I have been racing since I was 8 (Go-carts) and have been racing cars both professional and hobby since I was 16. I have spent many hours behind desk learning about this, and have used it many times in real time racing. Gearing also plays into the whole fact of top speed. It takes about 10hp for every 1-2mph increase (also depending on CW value and drag) at these speeds and increases the faster you go. But 500rwhp with the correct gearing will get you to 180+ with enough room in the Camaro. The Camaro has a VERY low drag coefficient of 0.37, compared to a mustangs 0.46! It has been praised to have a very "slick" body compared to other vehicles.
