Hi guys. Finally got around to doing some testing. I think I may have found a short in the DK GRN/WHT.
I'm pretty new to this so I just wanted to confirm my process: I pulled the FPCM plug and both plugs from the ECM. Located what I believe to be pin 20 DK GRN/WHT wire on the FPCM plug (see plug and module in attached photos). Set my multimeter to Ohms, stuck a very thin wire in the plug at pin 20, neg meter to grounded bolt on the body, pos meter to the thin wire coming from the plug, Ohms goes close to 0. I did all the sanity checks like checking neg to pos on the meter and testing the ground, pin 19 to the right reads 1, pin 21 to the left close to 0. Did I do this right and is there anything else I should check before I start trying to trace this wire to find a short? |

Here's a related thread on the Grn/Wht wire and connector. So you have the correct pin selected in the FPCM connector

Since you have the ECM completely disconnected, see what pin 20 (FPCM conn,) to pin 50 (ECM conn) do with your meter and to ground. Pin 50 should be the grn/wht and shouldnt be grounded.

Battery disconnected, FPCM and both ECM plugs removed, meter to Ohms, neg to ground bolt on body, positive to pin 20 FPCM and pin 50 ECM both go close to 0 Ohms.
Safe to say I've found a short? Any recommendations/links on how to do this or trouble spots I could check first? I did replace the blower motor under the dash about a year ago and somebody hit me in a parking lot on the driver side fender and there's a minor ding there. |

It's a long process to trace that wire all along back and forth till you find the rub. Probably under the dash. I'd do a quick search there first.

Thanks for following up.
I had somebody come over to help with watching the meter while I do a short to ground test and the short seems to be gone without me explicitly doing anything. Pins on both ECM and FPCM show 1 on meter. I tried messing with the harness everywhere I could access it but can't reproduce the issue. Plugged the module back in and everything is fine. No clue what the deal is. Maybe I moved the short wire at some point. I did have a very small trunk leak . Maybe related? This is actually not a great resolution since I'm looking to sell it. I guess I'll just deal with it if it comes back and notify potential buyers otherwise. |

Pull out the right kick panel and check connector X210 its a 40 cavity connector, Fuel pump relay control wire(D-GN/WH) runs through this. See if there's any corrosion in this connector, water intrusion. There's a TSB for a water leak because of missing sealer along one of the seams in the cowl area or the wiring harness pass-thru grommet may not be properly seated. This connector is right below where this water leak can come in.

Thanks. I'll check the X210 connector for any issues. The leak was because of the drain tubes in the trunk coming loose. I've have had some condensation build up inside the windows a few times before I realized where it was coming from.
Update. Issue randomly came back today. Pump just turned on at 4PM without touching anything. No rain either. Will investigate and update. |

Hi all.
There was actually a lot of moisture trapped behind the kick panel when I pulled it off. There was enough that I could wipe condensation off the metal body with my fingers. The connector itself seemed fine, and the issue hasn't returned since removing the panel and drying everything off. I buttoned everything up and that issue hasn't returned for a month now. The original leak I had was in the trunk, but it was bad enough that it soaked some of the back carpet and formed a little pool under the battery. This would cause condensation to build up inside the car, and I'm guessing it found it's way under the kick panel. I suppose there could be another leak somewhere, but I haven't seen any even after heavy rain this past month. I probably should have sealed the area & connections off a bit, but it's easy enough to take the panel off again if needed. If the issue returns, I'll check back in. Otherwise, thanks for all of your help. |
