Unfortunately without a video of it running, it's pretty tough to go on written descriptions of the sound and make any kind of diagnosis. I like pulling the accessory belt as a quick/easy step to roll in/out anything in the accessory drive. It's also not too much work to pull the valve-covers and make a quick inspection for spring/rocker issues. From there, the diagnostics get a little more involved.

Let us know what you find.

Took off the serpentine belt to see if it was anything with the tensioner or maybe pulley but it still does it. Going to take it in tomorrow to a local shop and see what they say.

Here is a short video. Again, sounds like a box of rocks. Motor has very high oil pressure at start up. Like 60-70. Doesn't have low oil pressure but GPI put a high volume Melling pump on it when the motor was worked on. It starts up strong. I am wondering, could it be a flexplate? Just another idea.

I would pull the starter and check the flex plate / TQ bolts. That doesn't sound like an internal issue to me.

Maybe consider pulling the belts off and run it to see if might be isolated to a driven accessory.

I think he said he did that already. Sounds to me kind of like somethink hitting the frame underneath the car maybe? Like a header tube hitting the brace as the engine shakes as they do, or quite possibly a flex plate bolt lose as mentioned. I'd check under the car while it is running..

The shop I use locally can't get to it until the 29th.lol
They are booked solid this week and not open most of next week understandably.
I will try and put it up on ramps one day this week after work and see if I can see anything.
I got to get that serpentine belt back on first and then I will get underneath.

I am going to guess and say torque converter bolts or flexplate. But that is just a guess obviously.

Bingo - I agree this sounds like it could be a loose flywheel/flex-plate. Does it change at all when you plunk it in gear?

Andrew, just did what you said and as soon as I put it in gear the motor died. Put it back in park, started it again and started right up. I think it is going to be the flexplate or torque convertor. Going to give Circle D a call since they are 15 minutes away from me. I will take it to them first.

Car is at circle d. First time I restarted it I didn't notice a noise in gear but now it makes a grinding noise and stalls right away once I put it into gear. Car starts right back up though. They will start to look at it tomorrow. Hopefully it is just converter bolts or flexplate. I will update when I know more. Thanks
