Why do you run a credit check if they do not finance with you? Personally I get preapproved through my credit union before shopping for a car. A dealer can verify financing by calling the credit union. No way would I want an extra inquiry on my credit report.

Not knocking the way you do business, just curious.

Don't you also get the trade-in value of the car deducated before taxes when buying a new car?? If thats the case then you can save on some tax money by trading in instead of having a bigger down payment.

Well here's a typical example ... I have a 2009 awd trailblazer ss ... trade in should be absolute minimum worse day $29,000 ... blue book, edmunds and others have good trade in value at the low thirties

Excellent
$34,075
Good
$32,475
Fair
$29,575

that's kelly blue book trade in values ... i was offered $25,000 - $26,000 (at more than one dealership) ... now wait a sec, the dealer would take that and turn around and ceritfy and sell it for AT LEAST $35,000 so that means I would take a $10,000 loss while they're laughing all the way to the bank with my cheddar ... and that's the bottom line ...

don't be hasty, just play the game ... you sell it for even $5000 more you saved yourself $5000

say they offer me $30,000 ... they still turn around and make at leastt$5,000. Certified price right now is $37,000 ...

only trade in if you got the money, def don't care that the dealer is molesting you, and it's just a pain in the butt and hard to sell on your own ... but consider your neighbors, someone better than the dealer could use that money. A friend, a family member ... shoot go get yourself a new samsung led tv ... otherwise the dealer is goign to be watching his new samsung tv capish?

Now on older cars the #'s get smaller and closer so the older your car the more viable an option to "trade it in" exists. If they offer you something respectable go for it ... the newer the vehicle the more careful you must be. And also to consider is how well this trade in reflects into the deal. If it works out fantastically for you, than do it. Just remember "yes" i'm getting a camaro and having the right payments or overall cost is another thing. I just tell you from my experience, these guys used to see me coming a mile away so i've learned over the years. With the way the government and society is, it's not acceptable to let any snakes slither anymore. Not even for our own convenience. If it's not accurate, it's wrong, it should be adjusted ... just my 2 cents. You play your cards right you go home with the new wheels and money in YOUR pocket not theirs .. you give yourself the money ... treat your camaro to an intake and some features ... have a pizza party, whatever ... I'm not goign to trade my truck in, i'll wait, make that other $5000-$10,000 and speand it on stuff that everyone else only looks at.

Patience is a virtue and that goes to anyone reading this thread. Take it from a guy that's been there and done that ... these dealers speand your kids college funds, your girlfriends and wives xmas and holiday preasents ... your new movado, your new surround sound, your ps3 ... BECAUSE WE LET THEM. Take it from me, treat yourself to that trade in money, treat your girl, treat your kid. We're so dumb we see that there's two different prices for tade in and private party .. we see dealer certified prices that the cars will be turned around and sold for and we still go and trade in ... what the #&$^% ?

We actually accept the $5000 difference in price, or whatever the difference is. We're like "oh i get it, cause it's going back to the dealer we have to give it to them for less that's why that have "trade in" prices .. i get it" ... yeah that's what we do ... bunch of idiots.

Don't be a fool, I'm not anymore ... have some respect for yourself, community, etc. Don't get so hot in the pants for any new comodity, even a camaro that we let ourselves, family, and community get ripped off. You don't owe a dealership anything, they should be happy you even walked in the door ... I can respect an honest living ... and again this applies moreso to newer vehicles. The older they are the more accurate the numbers become but at anytime the trade in is always less cause we allow it basically ... we all go look up trade in values at websites dedicated to doing so. Why do we go there? Because that's where you get the value for your trade in ... a value that we have allowed dealerships to bestow upon our property rather than applying the real "private" which is our own and proper value to the vehicle. We go to kelly blue book like it's the thing to do ... lol.

Granted dealers need to make a return and profit on their investment but that's where the gray area occurs and most of us just accept "trade in" as honest practice. Maybe there's a few dealers out there that are honest operations, I don't mean to offend any owners/dealers who pride themselves in just that, praise them if they do exist and give me your # i'll travel to you if you're not near NY and we'll deal right now and every two years. ... i've always been one to call a spade a spade though and so far I haven't been overtly impressed by any dealership.

You negotiate the down payment and the trade in when you order your new car along with the car's price. You keep driving the trade in until your car comes in. The negotiated price is contingent on the fact that the trade in will be in the same condition as it was on the day that you negotiated the price. For example, if you bring it in with a smashed nose or a blown tranny, do not expect to get the price that you had worked out. I ordered my SS on 10/13/2008 and didn't get it until 5/20/2009. I continued to drive my 2002 SS until my 2010 SS came in. For a trade in value go to KBB.com and put in your information.

Couple things I would suggest as I am almost done with the Camaro process (picking up mine tomorrow). I would one use a dealer listed on this site hands down. May cost you a little extra in time and arranging things via phone calls but USE the dealers on this site. Secondly, look into Carmax. I was given an offer and Carmax was able to give me closer to the value of my vehicle. You need to remember that dealerships make their money on used vehicles so if they can get you on a low offer that is where the profit is. Carmax on the other hand deals in volume so look into that. YMMV but I had good luck with Carmax.

Cheers and good luck.
