Yeah the corvette is getting ridiculous. Started out as being crazy performance for a resonable price. As the years roll along the price keeps creeping up. The corvette should have never broken the 100K mark. It would have forced other companies to lower prices and start a trend. Great performance for the everyday guy. now the ZR1 is a dream car getting further and further out of reach.

the performance of the vette has also gone up. . .and you're talking about a super vette. the base price of the vette seems really reasonable to me considering the performance you are getting. 11 second 1/4 time with a good driver in ls3 form. . .great numbers on the ring etc.

This is true but the vette was always supposed to be for the average joe who wanted to splurge on a nice car. Now its getting to be a rich mans game. The camaro will hopefully satisfy those who want a nice performance car with an affordable price tag. I am sure it will.

That was never the market for the corvette. That is why you have always seen 50+ year old driving them. The general public cannot afford a corvette. With mortgages, bills, children etc there is usually little room to blow $ on a corvette. It wasn't ever targeted at the average Joe making $30k a year.

It was an elite sports car offered at a price break under the exotic competition. The vette is still a total bargain. You can get a 1lt right now for 39,999 NEW or cheapers from some forum dealers. thats insane for a 3200 lb 430 hp rocket.

the camao is the poor mans corvette i.e. for the average joe. A car affordable enough for a normal person that would give some level of thrill of a vette. Usually the powertrain is the same it is the body and suspension that make them differ.

The Camaro will get a bump in power as soon as the Gen V engines come out which I think will be for the 2011 camaro. Gen V is supposed to be a nice improvement over Gen IV engines. They will all be direct injection which alone will boost HP and MPG.

Since the C7 is slotted for a 2012 model I say that is the first you will see of the Gen V engines which is 2011 year. The camaro may get that same engine in that year or one later.

I personally don't know what to do. I am getting married in 10 months so I am waiting till that is over. By then the camaro will be out, the G8 GXp will be out. I will test drive them and decide on one of those or get a 2006/7 used Z06 for in the 40's

IMO, these are all good points. When I stop to think about it though, this ZR1 is everything the previous ZR-1 wanted to be. They tried to have active handling on protos' that didn't work out, but look what the ZR1 has now? The brakes, and all the carbon fiber, man; this is serious supercar stuff. It's easy to forget about the Z06 now, however, she's still there and still plenty capable. GTR? Whatever. Slap the Pilots from the ZR1 on the Z06 and see what happens. I kinda' think of the ZR1 almost as NOT a Corvette, because, like you said, I too think it strays from what I always thought of the Corvette as - the regular guys sports car.

Sorry - :bangdesk:

What more do you want. If you want more speed, BUY A VETTE. Much lighter. I want a MUSCLE CAR which is what the SS Camaro will be. The VETTE is a world class race track car, NOT a muscle car.
too many Z/28s...blasphemy too many SS cars, SS wagons,
SS compact cars, SS trucks, SS SUVs..... too many SS SS SS SS s
(in comparison to Z/28s) no offense to ANY Camaro SSs or Chevelle SSs
