Why do you keep saying it's not safe? If you use a manual trans remote starter and you install it right, it's just as safe as an auto start.

its illegal. get someone who installs them to do it off the clock for around the same fee there are no lawsuits except on you. otherwise no one will touch that thing. i plan on putting one on mine along with an advanced security system.

it's been done many times before. all you need to do is program the starter to check 2 things, the ebrake is on, and the car is in neutral. anything is possible with $$$

I Previously worked as a master installer for many install bays, and currently i'm a Ventura county police officer. installing or using a remote starter on a manual vehicle is NOT illegal. I just searched the vehicle code book and could not find a violation referring to this. I also have never heard of a citation being issued. I believe the issue falls into liability, even if an alarm has a manual transmission mode it still generally states, "remote start feature not intended for use on on manual transmission cars". This takes the liability away from the alarm maker. Your install bay may also say they cannot warranty the install, taking the liability away from them. All this means is if the electronics in the alarm fail and you damage someone or something when your car unintentionally lunges, you will be held liable. That being said a reputable shop can install a remote start on a manual tranny without any foreseen problems. yes there is the chance something can go wrong but no more than the chance of your alarm damaging you auto car by not powering the proper circuits and overheating the car.

DO NOT use an auto trans remote starter on a manual. The manual remote starter will check the state of the e-brake and of the doors. When you get out of the car, the engine will still be running, so you will need to leave the car in neutral. After you closed all doors, you will shut the car down using the remote. At this point, your car is in ready mode and the remote starter will check to see if a door is open. If ever a door was to be open, the remote starter will be disable so if the car is put in gear, it won't start. It's very safe. In over 10 years now, I've never seen one fail. I suggest the brand Autostart. (they have a web site www.autostart.com) Also you will need a bypass module for the transpondor key. Takes about 1.5 hours for an experienced tech to install and here in Quebec, it would cost between 275-400$ cdn for a complete kit with installation (depending on the remote you choose)
Let me know if you need more info.
