![]() To add... you probably wont wreck you SS in the snow with the PZeros b/c you wont be able to drive it. They have ZERO traction in the snow. You will need a second set of tires. Drawback is, like someoen said, you dont want ot have to deal with swapping back and forth on the same wheels. You would eventaully eat up more costs and damage your tires. Get a set of wheels off the calssifieds. There are tons of sets of 20" wheels on there, then get yourself a set of winter tires and then you can swap them out at your own will. Its like changing a flat tire... only 4 of them. When you do get your car, becareful. Oh... and WELCOME!

IF you want to drive it in winter, then get some winter rims and winter tires. As for the rear wheel drive issue, IMO anyone who whines about how shitty RWD are in winter just doesnt have enough experience. They all used to be RWD till some 15 - 20 years ago and we all got along just fine. All my cars are RWD and I live in northern Canada where the temps get down to -40F, we have piles of snow and more times than not, our roads are covered in ice...not black ice, not just a wisp, but ice and yet I am able to navigate around nicely in a Chrysler 300C which is just as big and heavy as the camaro.
I wouldnt drive the car in winter because I would not want to bust off everything low on the car and get all the sand and salt throughout the car, as well the interior messy as hell. |

If your getting 20" rims I can tell you the tires suck when it's cold and I wouldn't even try driving on them in snow. Get the winter tires if you plan for an all year driver. You can get the factory 20" on ebay pretty cheap like $150 a piece or so if you wanted a second set so you didn't have to swap them every season. I can send you a like if you'd like just PM me.

Thanks again for all of the feedback. It's all good advice. As soon as I get a car ordered, I'll start looking for tires and rims. My head's saying "wait until spring", but my heart wants one NOW!!

I would buy a set of sick wheels and put the P-zero's on them and put the winter tires on the stock wheels.

If you are concerned about driving the Camaro in the winter, get a beater and store the Camaro. No need to worry about the grip of summer tires and once you figure in the insurance, its probably cheaper than getting a set of winter wheels and tires and driving the Camaro.
Now, if you do get winter wheels and tires don't bother with all seasons, they aren't good for areas that get real winter weather and you need all the grip you can get with the Camaro. If you can, find a set of 19" steelies that are a bit narrower than stock. The extra weight and smaller width will cut through and compress deep snow better. There was debate earlier about whether 18" wheels would fit over the the brembos and they won't anymore, but I haven't heard anything about 19's not fitting. However, since its early February now and you don't have a car ordered, none of this should matter too much unless you intend on buying a car off the lot. If you wait a little bit, you could order your car and it would arrive for early spring.

I have the 20" Pirelli scorpion Ice and snow tires, they work great and they feel a lot like the Pzeros, and plus they are 150mph rated. So if you did want to go real fast, you can.
They worked really good in the snow we got the other day. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64973 |

Hi Joe, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's and wive's here don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! AND, getting another set of wheels and tires for winter would be the way to go.

Thanks to all. I plan on making a decision on which Camaro I want in the next couple of days. I know I want a 1SS, I'm just trying to decide on color. Tirerack is sold out of Pirelli Scorpions, so I'll have to look at other options for winter tires. Thanks again. I learned more about Camaros from spending a few days searching this forum than I did doing weeks of research online.
