I've actually been thinking about that. It looks like there's enough space for a cup holder, but GM could just as easily plug it up.

Maybe the insiders should post a new poll for us to vote on gauge choices and relate that to the powers that be, if it isnt too late (prolly is).

I was at a road-race training course for a weekend this past summer. One of the students brought an automatic Camaro. He had issues with the tranny by the end of the weekend. I don't know if it was heat related, just thought I'd mention it.

Think about it this way: As they are positioned now, you clearly can't look at the gauges while the car is moving. You can only check it while stopped. Now this isn't as much of a problem with temp gauges as the car doesn't immediately cool upon stopping. However, when the car stops, where does the torque gauge go? To zero. Every time. How a gauge that reads zero every time you can look at it is "neat" is beyond me. I'd rather GM just put the gauges in a useful place and turned that area into a nice coin/id holder. The ergonomics of that gauge pack were screwed up in the 1960s. It is still screwed up today. Why you would pick a problem area to glorify in a "heritage" tribute is beyond me.

I think it's too late to move them up. They need to make sure, and probably already have done it. To put a "check gauge" idiot light on the main center panel. The tranny temp is much more imporant after warranty and the vehicle get's older. I am not sure but if they do it like Corvette they will run (for the auto) a tranny fluid line into the radiator for some cooling. Correct me if wrong on that.

Well they may have had to do away with it due to possible patent infringment. A teen and his dad came up with a torque guage for his Mustang because he was tired of the inconvenience and cost to dyno his car every time he changed something. They have been awarded a provisional patent.
http://www.motortrend.com/features/e...gue/index.html As for the console gauges and those that think they are unusable while driving I must disagree. My '67 has them and it takes me no more time to avert my eyes down for a quick scan of them than it does to glance at the speedometer or tach. |

I wanted a fuel pressure gauge, much more useful.

I think it would be much more "useful" if you can see your Torque number on the HUD.

I like that idea.

I would trade it all for the GM reconfigurable performance display.

Maybe I'm not that smart, but I didn't think a trans temp gauge in a manual would be that useful. I can't imagine someone looking down long enough to do an indepth study of the gauge while driving. It should just be a glance, then process where the needles are.
