I just don't agree that the V6 is a "why bother" car like previous generation v6's.
I agree. The v6 is fun as heck to drive. And you will pay less in insurance/gas. It is only a 6 but you still get thrown back into your seat. Obviously the v8 is going to be that much better....... but my ls is the best v6 car I have ever driven by FARRRR and better than many v8s too. I will take my v6 camaro over my buddy's v8 stang any day... 65 more ponies!!!!

But go with the manual v6... you get the same gears as the v8s and a limited slip diff also.... I wouldn't want an auto v6.

I test drove a V6 manual. I think it also depends a lot on what you expect and are used to in a car. I've only driven LS based V8's for the last 8 years or so. The V6 while nice, was no comparison to the V8. The stick shift and clutch was feather light. For me it instantly solidified my decision to order an SS. As a daily driver, practical car I'm sure the V6 will more than do the job and it is a nice engine. Go with your gut, both look fantastic!

I've driven both. The SS has tons of power and torque plus that V8 exhaust rumble. The V6 still has good power, better mileage, a much smoother ride, you don't have to swap tires twice a year, and the 18" or 19" tires have a tread life twice as long as the 20's. It's all about what you want.

Sask-man from Sask,

I have driven both, great cars. I just like having the power when I need it. Tell your buddy my RS/2SS black is for sale. Just posted it again tonight. Have him PM if he is serious.

if money is an issue get a 1ss...

if you plaininly want an answer between v6 and v8...
its simple... one has way more power than the other...
what do you want? more power? get the v8....

Captain has it spot on. If you go back and read my posts from driving the CTF cars both V6 and SS you would see I've always said 2LT RS for a DD and a 2SS RS for a great fun car for weekends.

I have an LS for the weekend and I can tell you the V6 is STILL a blast to drive. But it will never be a V8.

So it's fun (V6) and REALLLLLY fun (V8)

I agree it is more practical to get the V6 for DD, but if you even have the slightest urge to have the V8 you will regret your decision later.

Personally my 1SS/RS M6 is the DD. I am a single father and commute roughly 40 miles one way to work. Is the car practical for a kid or that type of commute? Hell no, but I have a smile on my face every day when I drive it

I am saving money on the side however to get a beater in 5-6 months as I do not want my SS to have over 100k miles on it before I even have it paid off

I test drove both. I would love to have the V8 but the $$ factor came into play with me. Im still young and someday will get a car with that much HP but the V6 is great for me coming after a 4cyl Malibu(great car by the way)

Dont let the V6 haters get you down about getting a 6. I have 15000 miles on mine and I picked it up July 3 2009. I havent regretted it once. I had a chance to drive the V8 and yes it is much faster. But I just coulnt pass up the fuel economy/horsepower/price ratio.

And I like it every time someone asks if its a V6 or a V8. Because that implies that the average person looking at it cant tell which engine is in it... only that its one Bad A$$ car.

The V6 is defintely the most powerful v6 I have ever drove. In comparison, it is faster than my 1971 Camaro which was a V8. And don't forget it gets 29mpg on the highway!!

i actually own both cars and the 2lt is the way to cover all the bases, great fuel milage ,power and looks. If there is any question about affordability then defer to the 2lt,thats to say if you have to even ask the question then you probably shouldnt consider the SS,the 2lt is no slacker

I havent driven a the V8Gen5 but I've driven an LS2 GTO, performance wise, in the straights they are mirror. My buddies GTO run's high 12's.

That being said I own a V6Gen5 and its more than enough to get you in trouble.

Yeah an LS series V8 will spank the hell out of it. But I didnt buy the car for racing.

Either way V8 LS series motors have been around for a minute now.
The V6 LLT has all the new technology that can be thrown at a motor. 3.6L V6/304hp/mid 20's mpg combined/87 octane.you cant go wrong.

The only people that will hate are the hard core til death "won't have a pony car unless its a V8" type. And they are still mad that 8 track players are obsolete and Mc Donalds doesn't super size anymore.
other than those types, its thumbs up all day long.

HP/Liter the LLT is a bad ass motor!
