Its either cruel fate or punishment that the drivers of DUI crashes often live, something about the body being more relaxed I’ve heard, where stiffing up makes it worse, the rag doll effect, even more so if they black out.

I have 2 times where I goofed up and blacked out before the hard hit.

1 when I was a kid, big steep hill, pile of dirt at the bottom, friend says hey some girls, he’s gonna show off, I pedal past him goin what felt like 90, say oh crap in my head and woke up still up right, slumped over the handle bars and still moving, didn't wipe it.

2nd was my first car wreck, first car, first day driving to school.
Reached for a pop next to me, tire fell off the road edge, pop goes the tire, into a ditch, ended up goin wide open at a big cement ditch pipe blacked out, hit that, jumped up, smashed a s15 out of the way, destroyed a guard rail and stopped resting on some gas pipes, when I woke up the s15 was up on its side on two wheel and then came resting down on all 4.

[Only cost $150 for a new front clip and it was fine. A big tank 76 Gutlass.

And my buddy next to me was fine, he said it was a fun ride.
Like that simulation gokart things they had in malls.]

But havn't done it since in other wrecks.

A very sad thread indeed, but nothing like some hilarious comic relief to ease up the mood! I laughed out loud when I read "he said it was a fun ride" part.

I'm surprised the driver survived at all and sometimes wonder if it wouldn't have been better to have died...imagine living with the thought that you're stupid actions killed another person. Very sad...
I was reading about this horrible situation, then read your post. Scrolled up to look at the photo again and.... holy **** you're right! He hit that tree HARD, and sideways. The amount of paint transfer to the tree is incredible, I don't even want to think about what the accident looked like while it was happening. :(

It infuriates me whenever I read about one of these "accidents". Very sad, and so avoidable!!! A fast RWD on wet roads is bad enough, but throw alcohol into it and something stupid is going to happen fast. :(

My prayers are with the family of the departed.
