Maybe we'll get lucky and GM will have an accessory antenna or something body-colored to help it blend better

Question I wonder why

they still have it?
On our 2006 C6 the XM antenna is in the side mirrors. I don't have and DON"T WANT OnStar but I believe all vettes, starting in 2006 have the antennas in the mirrors.

Its not that bad. paint matched would be a whole lot better but it could look worse, like the old ones on C5s that were huge or like on the trucks, there front of the hood and to the side. they look out of place

I Like it. Shark fin is very cool. Better than those 20 story- tall ones that once graced our cars a few years ago. But I'm getting a Vert, so is everything going to be on the trunklid?

OH GOD I HATE SHARK FINS! Hide the antennas in the A-Pillars or something. This is preposterous. I hate that light on top of the trunk too, why can't it just be below the trunklid like the Concept? And screw those King Kong Antennas.....

Ideally there needs to be a ground plane as in a metal roof, or trunk lid if you have a convertible. The ground plane must be metal. A fiberglass roof would not work as a ground plane, so in that case you could put the antenna wherever you wanted.

I've gotten to the point where I don't even notice it on the roof anymore.

I actually think shark fin antennas add to a car. I also love my XM, and I know I'll love Onstar if I get into an accident. Therefore, I'm happy the antennas for both are housed in a shark fin. However, I am upset that GM chose to not make it body colored. They really need to fix that now. Everyone else does it. GM has no excuse.

I really don't think it looks that bad. In all honesty...it could've been worse. It could've been MUCH worse.

*Looks at Saturn Astra...*

This is my biggest complaint about the car, and for me it's actually quite important.

When you look at other manufacturers, like Honda, Toyota, and BMW, their satellite radio/telemetry antennas are NOT as cheap and flimsy looking as GM's. They are all body color, solid, and aerodynamically more integrated into the roof than GM's. GM satellite antennas are all gray, unsightly, and grainy cheap plastic. If you get a light colored car, they stick out like a sore thumb.

I have continuously asked Fbodfather this question myself, but have yet to get an answer.

Untill I get the real answer, I will just continue to assume GM is just too cheap to make a good looking antenna and apparently see no harm in cutting corners.

For me personally, it's unacceptable. I will probably remove the antenna and have a professional body shop seal the hole, paint it, and blend the roof so you will never know there ever was one to begin with.

Now, if GM had opted to put an extra $.17 into the thing and make it look as nice as their competitors (even cheapo Honda Civics have a nice looking satellite antenna), I wouldn't even think about fiddling with my roof.

I would prefer they integrate it into the body, as long as it doesn't upset the reception. If they painted it I would have no issue really, but the question is will they paint it?
