Plus I like the idea of being able to adjust for height the way I want it.

All coilovers will give you the ability to adjust the height where you want it. I think a good range for the car is going to be 1-1.5 inches. 2 inches maybe a little extreme if you are putting on larger size tires.
Pricing ranges from $950 to $2000..........................BC, Pedders, KW, Pfadt

Thanks Pfadt. I'm torn again.....;^)
I'm also curious about the ride height adjustment. Is it adjustable while mounted on the car (like rebound/dampening) or does the unit have to be removed, adjusted, and then re-installed ? Asking about any and all brands. An example where I can think of adjusting the height multiple times would be normal height on the street, but lower for smaller wheels on the track. Are most folks running coilovers with or without the sway upgrades ? |

Most coils come with the wrenches to adjust height, just need a jack.
My concern would be getting them even & resetting the alignment. I am paying to have mine installed, frame height adjusted(not wheel wells), corner balanced(driver weight factored in), plus alignment. Don't think I will be changing, will find a happy midpoint.

I don't think the coil overs replace the need for sways - again, IMO. PFadt sways made a huge difference, IMO, on the handling of my Baby. I have lowering springs also, but want to move to the coilovers for better ride control. A good thread here
Thanks! Keep the info coming as I too am ready to make a decision.

The feedback you got about adjusting with spanner wrenches while installed is true, the car will obviously need to be on jack stands or a frame lift. And yes the dampening adjustment can be done also while installed (it's common across all brands, but not a staple). And I cant speak to everyone, but it is a fairly common step in upgrading components on a your car to start with upgraded sways (and drop coils possibly), and then move to coilovers. The coilovers would not change the need to upgrade the sways, as they are semi-independent systems. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! |

It's true that coilovers and swaybars won't "replace" each other. But you must take into consideration the overall stiffness of your suspension.
If you get a coilover setup, you don't need super stiff swaybars as the coilovers have increased the spring stiffness over stock. Same goes for coilovers. If you already have bigger swaybars you don't need super stiff coilovers. Some guys might be fine with just sways and stock springs/shocks. Some guys might prefer stiffer coilovers and stock sways. It's all about personal preference and driving style/environment. |
