Unless I'm mistaken, the ram air intake that wraps up to meet the hood scoop was originally designed for the LT4 cars. The LT1 models got the regular cool-airbox. GM may have gone standard with the ram intake on the 97 SS, but I know it was originally built for the LT4...

Nope. All LT1 SS cars got the wrap around intake coming from the scoop. There's only a handful of LT4 SLP cars.

That is stock on the SS versions but there were a few aftermarket companies that made them as well. You can find them on Ebay from time to time if you are still looking for one.

Yes it will bolt right up. Also just want to mention it was proven through tests back in the day that if you have a cold air unit it actually adds more power than the ram air hood and that intake housing and elbow. Reason being was that intake had a lot of heat soak sitting right on top of the hot LT1 intake. Just wanted to throw that out there

Now the other intake did flow better and make more power in the 100+ mph range You could do the LSx intake conversion where you install the lid on the LTx cars so it picks up the air from the front and straight in to the TB and you dont have to deal with the heat soaking part.

wonder if it would help it you put some of that heat shield tape on the bottom of the filter case...might keep some heat away?
