I would prefer both steering wheel and floor shifters. But, I cannot talk myself into an automatic no matter how hard I try.

I somewhat agree with you, I hate that delay, I was going to get a preditor to improve the tranmission, but I don't want to spend the money, I'f I could get the tremec thats in the challenger which I think MOPAR would sell in the future

I would pay for it

BTW Rumor has it that the 5-speed is getting replace in 2010, My bro who works for chrysler says GM or BMW is going to be developing 5,6 speeds AT's and MT's

6 speed manuals have been around for over a decade, and I know BMW already has a 6 speed auto (6-series if i remember correctly)

Thats basically what I was going to say. Some small tuning and you can have that auto shifting hard and quick(don't take that out of context). My friend has a tuner for his auto cobalt and it shifts quickly, stays in gear longer, and the instant you lay down the pedal if you were cruising in OD, it shifts back down quick!

guhh.... All automatic BMWs are at least 6 speeds. From the 1 series to the bigger cars. They may even have more gears.

And I think what Musclemaster was getting at is that BMW or GM (Probably GM since I know GM developed the trans in the 1 and 3 series) is going to develop a 6 speed auto for Chrysler. With Chrysler's financial situation, it'll probably be more economical to use the GM 6 speeds.

BMW has 6 and 7 speed auto's plus a 6 speed dual-clutch gearbox (sequential manual gearbox). It works like mechanically like a manual but the driver uses it like an automatic. Those are the paddle shifters that are really fast to shift. They basically have 1 clutch for odd numbered gears and one for even. So if you are in 3rd, 2nd and 4th are already clutched up so you can slam into either.
