Had a red '84 L69 Z28, auto with the 3.73's and the hideous, but cool for the time, "camaro" labeled velour interior lol.. had "Camaro" on the seats over and over and the door panels, in black over red and orange inserts..have to scan the pics in and post them.
That car was damn quick for what it was. I used to beat my friend's 5.7 GTA, any Monte SS i cam across (back then modded was someone grenading a motor with a 100 shot.) I used to take out 5.0 TPI Iroc-Z's left and right and even a friend's '89 5.0 5spd LX vert, even after he put 3.73's in it (then he put a vortech on it and we know how that went). The car went a best of 14.6x bone stock down to the filter at E-town i want to say it went 91mph?? It usually ran 14.8-14.9, in the heat. I blew the rear end up at 75k or so and then for a short time ran 2.73 rear i got from a junkyard that was out of a T/A.. THEN... I put 4.10's in it and screwed everything up lol. I lost 2 tenths with those gears, was overgeared for the big 190hp.. I was ejected from another friend's '84 L69 after we hit a pole at 65mph, sideways.. Thre weeks in the hospital and a visit from an eyewitness, my doctor lol. he said if we were wearing seatbelts we would have died as the pole spilt and the power line went right into the car through the t-tops that blew off on impact set the whole damn thing on fire. hahahaha memories.. Top it off i was only 17 (my birthday none-the-less) and my parents SUCKED and didn't sue.. I'd have a 20yo callaway Vette right now lol... Also, my cousin bought a brand new black '84 like the pic above, that's why a few years later bought mine.. should've bought a GN instead I can't believe how many L69 stories i have check this out.. http://www.motortrend.com/features/a...son/specs.html http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ved_comparison Last edited by TonyGXP; 05-28-2010 at 06:38 PM. |

I had a '84 Z28 H.o. 5 speed. It was a great car but i had lots of problems with it. had to get the TSB intank fuel pump because it vapor locked so bad.
Car would run. I think it was faster than my '87 IROC TPI 5 spd car. There are those that say that it didn't have 190hp that it had closer to 205-215. The camshaft was a L83 from the Corvette and with the 3.73s it would 0-60 in less than 7 seconds. |

It's pretty pointless to compare the 3gens to the current Camaros. The new ones are better in just about every way imaginable. That said, I still get a thrill when I drive my 84 Z28 HO 5L. Nothing like that old quadrajet intake moan
