Yes, aluminum castings can be porous.
As the R&R of the pan is a 12 hr job I suspect the dealer is just being prudent. My take is they could not absolutely confirm the leaK at the pan/block surface so have a new pan on hand just in case the pan is porous.
Works in my favor so no complaints here (yet!).
I just hope they, a) resolve the issue, b) don't create any other issues, and c) don't damage my DT shorty's.
Hope to have an answer by Friday..

Picked up my SS last night after replacement of the oil pan for porosity. Analysis verified the oil leak was not from either the real seal or the oil pan gasket so the entire pan was replaced. No drips on the garage floor this am, will take a look at it later this week.
One benefit is my clutch release point is now much closer to the floor vs. near the end of pedal travel as received from the factory.
No comments from the dealer about my CAI, X pipe or DT shorty headers.
