If you can find paint transfer and snap a digital photo of it, then you are in business. You would have to be pretty quick as the shop's liability agreement with their carrier likely prohibits customers on the shop floor and they will shoo you away.

An honest shop presented with the evidence will pay or refer you to the liability carrier who will also likely pay. Shop owners pay solid premiums for their coverage and specialty insurers make good money from the policies and like to keep the shop owners satisfied as shop owners tend to be very loyal customers themsleves, especially the honest ones. even look for paint flecks on the floor, your paint would stand out.

Use a tape measure and mark the damage on the tape measuring from the ground. Tell the manager you will check the lift with him. If the manager refuses he is not interested in doing the right thing. The paint from your car may be removed. I hope things work out for you.

Ladies and Gentlemen......

Never take repossession of your car or truck without first examining it!

Ever.

I'm not saying that they did not damage your car.

...but as I just told someone in a PM not 5 minutes ago:

I was in a Chevy dealership many years ago -- and a young mother was giving the General Manager a real going over -- claiming that the dealership damaged her bumper while it was in their possession.......

....when suddenly the lil 5-year old child of said mother piped up with something along the lines of "....but MOMMY! Remember? WE backed into the pole! - -that man didn't!!!"......"

You see -- there ARE instances where people damage their cars and then claim that the dealer - or the detailer --or the valet -- or lil boy blue and the man in the moon did it........

........and thus, it IS your right to have the service writer walk WITH YOU around your car or truck -- BEFORE -- and AFTER they work on it.

This protects YOU and it protects the reputation of the service provider.

Because your car is yellow, it should be able to be airbrushed on the edge to remove any damage......

Good luck!

In a perfect world a service writer would do a walk around before and after. Most of the ones I have seen are too busy. A dishonest one will still deny damaging your car. The kid at the Quik-Lube will look at you like
you're insane. Checking the car before leaving seems to be a good practice.

if its a reputable shop they will send you to a body shop of your choice to have it repaired,i know in my shop these things happen from time to time and we always take care of our customer, just dont go back in there raising holy hell, be civil, remember shit happens give them a chance to make things right, the head guys probably dont know it even happened, lead techs usually dont do flat repairs anywhere you go so chances are it was some low level guy who didnt want to get in trouble so didnt man up and say anything, hopefully theres some paint on your car from the rack that will match up good luck

You should still find your paint on the wall.

I did when the GM dealer did that to my Silverado.

You can insist that they provide you with their shop owners liability insurance carrier and file a claim and their carrier will deny it because you have no independent witness.

You can take them to small claims court and the judge will find for the shop most likely.

So the best recourse is to pay for the repair yourself, never use that shop again, and tell all your friends anf family to spread the word that they suck. At least it will be a spiritual victory.
Agree.

edit: mulletman: why would you be at a quiklube with a camaro???

Sorry I am a diesel mechanic, don't know a lot about paint and body. The others above have better ideas regarding repairs I think.

Find a good "dent and ding" repair shop. they are good at such and can do it with out a repaint, which you do not want. Tire shop may own up to it but hard for them to do such as they are not sure they did the damage. Just tell them you are real sure it was them and show the rest of the car with no dings, chips etc..but I would expect to do the repair out of pocket. Get it done and forget about it.

Same thing happen on my brand new CC. House painter put a ding in it while in garage. I was at the ding shop next day and $50 later, happy. Could not lay it on the painter but was sure it was them with the lumber and paint stuff in the garage.

I think you are pretty much screwed on them paying. There is no way to prove it but next time you know to make sure you and the shop take a look at the car before you hand them the keys, maybe get the condition in writing.

You probably can get a shop to do some touch up. It may not match though. Nothing matches unless you paint the entire car. Doing the whole door won't match the rest of the car. It can come very close though, very close.

Suggestion: I have a RY 2SS and I bought from the dealer some touch up paint, exactly matching the color code of the car. It cost me $15 and comes double tipped, both brush and pen. I recommend asking your dealer for it. I bought it a while ago because inevitably, you are going to get chips on your car. As for the tire place, the louder you scream they did it, the more they'll listen.

I've had a similar occurence with another car of mine. I b*tched them out, nicely of course, and they took care of the problem right then and there.

Try getting a bit loud and forceful, placing the blame on them squarely.
