if you're interested in knowing more call CarToys at 918-254-5093 make sure and ask for Gary he has been informed on what you're looking for. He is a Focal and JBL expert and now a 2010 camaro expert! :-)

Sorry.

Obviously, I perfer Focal. I like crisp, clean highs and the ability to get my bass from my sub/mid woofers.

My wife, not so much. She likes more bass coming from the doors AND the her sub woofer. I like volume, where she keeps it more civilized. If your looking at keeping your volume down or not adding a 300-500 watt sub, you may not like the higher end Focal's. If you like volume and hearing the full range of music, I'd go with the Focal Power K2's.

There is a TSB for cars under a VIN of 56K on the factory BA speakers (fronts) distorting at high volume. They replaced my front speaker and my amp. Now there is ZERO bass coming out of the front speakers and they still distort at volume over 23, and the rear speakers have less bass as well.

I'm looking at replacing my factory BA speakers with Focal speakers in the doors and possibly leaving the rear speakers intact because they haven't shown any issues with the bass all the way up on my stock system. I'm not convinced this will be the case after I add a better quality amp and I'm looking for replacements just in case, but not wanting to spend the money if I don't have to.

I put the Focal Polyglass 165 VS speaker in my wifes car (2000 MR-2 conv) and they don't have enough bass for her taste, but she keeps the volume really low, keeps it on the radio most of the time, and doesn't use her iPod. She perfer's deep bass sound coming from all of her speakers and I didn't set the fronts up like that with the crossover. They "can" work that way, but I was tuning the system to my taste, not hers.

Her system is running a Solid 4 amp and is pushing the Focal 27 v1 (11" sub) off of 2 channels. I had to add a secondary fan to keep the amp from overheating and cutting off. (It's frenched into a custom fiberglass enclosure and air movement was non exsistant.) The system sounds amazing with the top up and I'm sure it would be great in one of our Camaro's, but I'm itching to get retarded with my sound system again and will be going over 1000 watts.

The Solid 4 is 4 channel amp that pushes 4 x 80w RMS @ 4 Ohms or 100w @ 2 Ohms. the 165VS speakers in my wifes car are rated for 70w RMS and do not distort at volume. They are wired to 4 Ohms so the amp is providing 10w more power then the "Nominal" range and they aren't stressed.

When you look for your system you want to make sure you keep the Ohms rating on your speakers = to the best possible sound quality (THD) that your amp can produce. Look for an amp that is rated below (>) .08%. If it is over .08% you will be able to hear the static "hissing" from the amplified signal.

I hope I answered you questions.

Ah yes it did, you had the factory amp replaced under a TSB with another factory amp. Now I gotcha. I had thought you replaced your factory amp with an after market one.
Thank you for writing that up tho!!!
cheers

The factory amp will be replaced shortly with an aftermarket amp. The new amp is less than impressive. Sound quality is now crap.

Really my determining factor is ease of install since I will be doing it myself so if I have spend/save/budget for more inorder to get a better/easier/drop in product that is what I do. I am of the mind do it once and do it right. So if you tell me Hertz is a perfect fit and you take the factory parts out and the Hertz fits right in BUT it costs more, well then I save longer. That make sense and give you and idea where I am coming from?
Perfectly understand. You don't like bright, stay away from metallic tweeters, and Focal. Very bright, to the point of bieng painful, IMHO. I had Focal PolyGlas, midbass was good, the tweeters were awful. Extremely bright, canned them in favor of the Memphis SQs, never looked back!

Anyway, drop in fit is going to be fairly universal, unless you buy a 7" or 8" set. And yeah, they make them that big. You are going to want to totally deaden the door for best performance, and added lowend from the mids. You're also going to want to can the factory amp. That's the biggest improvement you can make at this point. Good, clean power going to the factory speakers is going to make them sound way better, although not as good as quality aftermarket stuff.

Grab a SunDown 4 channel, like this one, and some componets, two sets of these would be nice , replace the rear 6x9s with the componets, and call it a day, lol.

Where do you come up with this stuff, Kent? Bravox, never heard of it. Went to their website and started to research it. Looks pretty good, the sensitivity on the speakers is very good and looks on par with some of the more well known higher end audio brands.

I may very well have to look at these!
Thanks

Man, it's all I did for years. I installed at a shop for employment, then came home and did it some more as a side job. I competed a couple of years, but found my calling building stupid loud daily drivers instead of one note wonders. Of course, bass race is right up my alley, I just don't have the urge to do it.

And to top it off, SSA used to be my home. Lots of reading, lots of trying went into developing what knowledge I have, lol. Some of it good, some of it, well, it's up to the end user to decide!

Well the bravox look like a good option. A two way component set and then a set of coaxials in the back?

And the amp would match my existing SD amp with 100 w rms being more than enough.

Now if we could come up with a way to replace the factory amp.......

Cheers

Bravox is good stuff. To be honest, if it was me, replace components in door, run a true midbass driver, ala Kicker RMB8, in place of rear 6x9s and completely bypass the factory amp.

If needed, I happen to have a BNIB set of RMB8s just sitting here, doing nothing, lol.
