They actually mentioned the HIDs?? That does make me wonder about the dealerships competence.

So you brought your car in for manual tranny, engine codes, and brake issues and somehow, the dealer thinks the PCM is fried. The car was running when you took it to the dealer and now it won't even start. Hmmmmmm sounds like the dealer tried to figure out the codes issue and might have done something to the car that involves hooking up to the PCM and maybe, just maybe, their tech fried the PCM somehow and they see your aftermarket HID and Subwoofer and found a way to divert the fault to you. Have they explained how the battery was reinstalled incorrectly to back up their claim. Sounds like a typical dealer scam to me. Unfortunately, what the dealer said after aftermarket electronic stuff on your car voiding the warranty on stuff it can affect is true. Who did the install? If the dealer can put their claim about the incorrect reinstallation of the battery in writing, you might have a claim against the installer.

I would say, you brought it in there in running condition. Tell them that and that you want to retrieve the car and that you expect it to be in the same condition as when you dropped it off. Tell them you want to know when it will be ready for you to pick it up. That you intend to drive it away since that is how you brought it there.

So you have an LS. You have done or had someone do HID's, subwoofer. Now, who did these mods?
That would be the ones you should be complaining about. Too many people do not grasp, or want to undertsnad taht the electronics on today's vehicles are highly integrated. If some one working on these doesn't fully understand what they are doing you are running a risk. Same thing could have happened to a Nissan, Ford, Toyota, Honda, BMW, VW, et al. What did you do to verify whether or not the "installers", knew what they were doing? I am not seeing whether or not the dealer did the installs? If I were you I would take a lomg hard look at those who performed your mods. This isn't GM's fault by any stretch of the imagination.

Not GM's or the dealer's fault if you decide to install or have someone else install aftermarket electrical components and problems arise. Same with mechanical add ons like CAI and long tube headers.
Read the Owner's Manual. It specifically states that such modifications could damage components in the car and they would not be covered by warranty. It never ceases to amaze me that people will butcher their vehicles or have some professed expert with wire strippers and duct tape install all sorts of components in their car and then cry when it breaks and expect the manufacturer to pay for it. Basically one has to be accountable and responsible for his actions, and if he is wrong accept the consequences. If you want to play be prepared to pay. End of rant.

From this story (haven't read his other thread yet,) it would appear that in this case the mods shouldn't have effected the PCM at all. The lights and subwoofer should be on an entirely different electrical bus on the car than the PCM. The mods would have to go through the breaker panel and regulators before it would get to the PCM. If the mods did cause short and fried the PCM then that also means they either bypassed the breakers and spliced into the power lines prior to the CB panel or the CB panel and regulators were crap to begin with. Also I don't see how the battery was "incorrectly installed" and fry the PCM that way either. If they were reversed, the moment any form of DC power got used the CBs should have popped and you'd notice no power at all. (Entrance lights etc would not come on when they normally would when opening a door.)
They are required to put in writing a detailed description of what exactly voided the warranty with actual proof that what they are claiming destroyed the PCM and voided your warranty actually did it. I'd go to another dealer that's not trying to give you a ride. |

Rolling along...

Sorry to hear about the situation.
As suggested in your other thread...you really should have disconnected all of the electronics upgrades you did before taking this to the dealer. If they aren't connected and there are still problems, it's a lot harder for the dealership to say that is the cause. I'd suggest picking the car up and getting a second opinion from another dealer before throwing in the towel on your Camaro.
