Luckily, as I have written before, there are almost 4000 Chevy dealers in the U.S.. Some are charging markups, and some are not. If you want the Camaro as soon as it is released, go find a dealer that is not doing markups and see if they have any left. I for one am very glad so many people here are just saying no to markups. It makes life easier for all buyers.
Unfortunately, this group makes for the minority. Just like the Challenger, there will be a ton of people willing to pay a premium to have the "first" around. Good thing about sales, the customer ALWAYS sets the pricing.

A manufactuer can't do anything about mark-ups, not in any way shape or form. It breaks franchise laws.

A dealer doesn't have to honor any form of pricing unless it is advertised, such as radio or print. Someone could send you specific pricing over an e-mail and it not mean a thing. Not unless it listed a particular stock number or VIN number, then you might have a chance.

I, like many, am going to wait till they are readily available for a better deal and less over all stress.

I can't stress this enough the importance of finding a dealership you are comfortable with. Anytime money is being exchanged there is a big chance of friction. the better the realtionship with the dealership (business) the better things will be.

Yea, or what they will do is once you order it and it comes in. Somebody else will want your car and they will charge them more just to get a deal. And then they will just explain a bunch of BS to you and get you to choose another car!!

True, but if I recall correctly within days of the Challenger going on pre-order there were reports of huge percentage markups. One week into pre-orders, I haven't seen any reports like that for the Camaro.

Yep

Samething here as well. My dealer said they were getting 5 and the owner wasn't sure what to do with them. I was also told they wouldn't be taking SS orders until August, and that I would have it by November/December.

Anyone else got this line... kind of sounds odd?

You mean next August? The SS comes out at the same time as the LS and LT in March. Perhaps he was thinking of the convertible?

OP - I found the same type of crooks in FL. Unbelievable how greedy and ego driven some dealers are in this environment. You may want to order online - if so, check Corvette Forum dealers list.

I'm not surprised to see this happening in the Bay Area. I hope we are able to find dealers around here NOT wanting to mark it up.

HOpefully by the time the convertibles come out, they will be over the initial markup hype.

First of all - it is not only GM dealers adding to the MSRP -- it appears that many dealers representing ALL manufacturers put ADM stickers on their cars in the state of California............

As to saying to a dealer "your allocation went from 15 to 5 is illegal....." -- you can go to jail for that.........

I'm gonna say this again -( dear GOD I need a smilie for this one too........) JUST SAY NO when a dealer asks for a price over MSRP.

There are dealers in other states that will be happy to sell you a Camaro - they can either courtesy deliver the car -- OR - better yet - make a road trip out of it -- and ENJOY your Camaro driving it home!

Yea, some will pay the 5k above sticker just to be the 1st.....I don't have that kind of money to burn.....Ford did the same with the new mustang.....I waited a year and got mine for 0% intrest and a $500 rebate from ford.....

I had no idea that would be illegal. How so? GM makes the cars how do they not have the right to distribute as they see fit? In fact isn't that what they're doing now? Doling out cars based on certain metrics that they came up with?

On a side note thanks for all of your information and insight. I have never owned a GM product out of my 10+ new vehicles. Please offer the SS in blue!

It is kind of unfair for GM to do that. But I know like 20 people at my local Chevy dealership, so I don't think I will have a problem getting the one I want at the price I see fit.

Anti-trust. It's complicated. Just go with it.

GM and all manufacturers don't need to tell the dealers what to sell at, they just need to add a direct sales department that sells 'to order' cars at MSRP+Standard Fees. Require a moderate down payment by credit card and, limit it to no haggle straight up pricing and it would remove the temptation for dealers to misbehave.
