Great News!
What makes me laugh is the POLL on this forum about the UGLIEST COLOR. IOM has one of the highest numbers of votes for being the UGLIEST COLOR. I am glad I agree with the decision to make the INDY 500 PACE CAR MY FAVORITE COLOR. INFERNO ORANGE METALIC. |

They may have had to run 130mph at some point this week, but during a race and under caution the pace car runs at or close to pit row speeds(which was 60 mph today at Indy). This gives the drivers something to go by to know what RPM to run in a certain gear so they don't speed down pit row. Nascar does the same thing, except for high banked tracks like Dayton and Talladega, where the pace laps are ran at around 70 mph because if they run any slower the cars will basically slide down to the bottom of the track. A few hours after the race, they moved the finishing order around becuse 3 drivers passed up another that was running 64mph under caution on the last lap and the pace car was going 65mph. If they were running 130mph under caution today, it was a slow 130mph. |

thru the research that I did, the pace car needs to run 120mph thru the corners. Now Robin mentioned today on the tv that she was trained to 130mph.
Now it was obvious on some of the laps when they were passing the accidents they were not going 120mph. But when the track was clear, it was also obvious that Robin seriously stepped it up mike dms |

Here's the pre-race interview... Notice no mention of a Chevy or Camaro...

Pace Car in Action
All
While I was at the Indy 500 with the Pace Car, I had an opportunity to take some picts with the car right before the race started. It was an awesome experience for John Cox (Camaro Accessory manager) and I (Pace Car designer). It was the first time either of us had seen the car outside, it sure looked good out there. Hope u enjoy the picts! -Atom |
