Cool

I have used valvoline syn for years and years. Love the oil, have not had a problem with it in any of my cars or trucks.

Just my 2 cents. My car gets Lubrication Engineers, Inc Monolec® SPB Engine Oil (8530).

Been using it almost 10 years on all my cars. Never had any problems.

And no it's not on "The List"

Now get out there and Drive!

Someone above already said why RP isn't on that list, yet the pace car in the photo I posted shows RP on the side. RP is fantastic stuff; I use it with complete confidence. If you're nervous about the warranty, go with Mobil 1. It's fine and does no harm. But you can be sure that your engine isn't going to fail or break because RP is in it. RP does such a good job protecting from engine wear that they actually recommend you NOT use it until about the 2,000 mile mark on your new car because it can actually interfere (prevent) with the break-in process of your engine. It's that good. Mobil 1 does not prevent the break-in wearing; think about it.

If you go with Mobil 1 for the engine, I'd still highly recommend you switch to Royal Purple Synchromax for the trans, and MaxGear 75w90 for the differential. Change both at the same time and you'll be amazed at the difference in sound and feel of the drivetrain afterwards. The car will actually coast farther and smoother because of the reduced friction. Reduced friction = less wear and tear, less heat, more power to the rear wheels, better gas mileage. And you can hear how much quieter it is too.

I've been thru an Avalanche, Sky Red Line, and now the Camaro. Two constants that I have in my garage are Mobil 1 5W-30 and my 99 Silverado. I change my own oil and grease job. Simply don't trust others. Anyway, the truck as 250,000 plus miles with only a new power steering pump, water pump, and alternator. The ol girl is still going without engine knocks, ticks or oil smoke. I stand by the Mobil 1.

It isn't "screaming", it is common sense and good reasoning. You can "scream" all you want about how great RP is, but stop acting like people who come here and inform people of the voiding of their vehicle warranty are "screaming", when we are just telling the truth.

Be careful. That service manager is not GM. If there is a engine problem, GM will override your service manager. It's your choice.

It's on the pace car because they're one of the race sponsors, not because that's what's in the car.

I can't say in cars, because I don't tear down a hundred or so car engines a year. I do work on a hundred or more bike engines a year though, and have been doing so for several decades.
I can tell you this; RP does not do the best job in the world when it comes to lubricating rod bearings in high revving race bike engines in my experience.
My 2 cents, ymmv.

I have 20 years working in dealerships. I personally have been involved with asking customers to provide proof ( if we did not do their regular maintenance ) that proper maintenance was done on engine failures, tranny failures, diff failures, etc... Everything was checked from proper weight/type of fluid to all called for certifications and such INCLUDING the appropriate API certification on oil. This was at the direct request we do so from the mfg( GM ). We actually did refuse to honor warranty a few times because things were not done right( ie; wrong fluid type/weight, run too long, no API Cert, etc... ).

In late 2006 my sister had to have the engine in her Impala replaced under warranty. There was some kind of mfg'ing defect is all we can figure out ( no readily identificable cause was ever found for the noise ). BEFORE GM approved the new engine under warranty they requested documentatiion from the dealer that proper oil changes were done. They Specifically asked if the work was done there or if the customer had done it themselves/elsewhere? If not at dealer they requested documentation with receipts to verify the right oil weight was used, met GM 6094M, used oil with API starburst, and the OC's were done on time. Her work was all done at the dealer and the vehicle was not that old anyway so that ended the inquiry but it was started.

It is not a 100% sure thing that proof of proper maintenance or what you used will be asked for. The point is it "might" and you don't want to be the poor sucker who believed those who say it will NEVER be checked. That is 100% untrue. Some mfg's are tougher on it than others ( Chrysler has become very picky in the last couple years as an example ) and with such a poor economy and all auto mfg's suffering these days they are all more picky right now.

People can do what they want with their vehicles. They are the ones who have to pay if the warranty is denied.

+1, I've got nothing to sell nor an agenda.
I'm only communicating my experiences with RP, which have been mostly negative.
Take it as you will.

I would not use any oil that does not specifically meet the GM spec.
That said, there are lots of oils other than Mobil 1 that meet the spec. and have proven to provide better wear protection in standard wear tests.
I am using Valvoline Synpower in my cars. Valvoline also has a 300,000 mile guarantee against oil related engine failures.
My Z06 has actually shown reduced oil consumption between changes since I switched from Mobil 1 to Synpower. I am going to have an oil analysis done on my next oil change to see if there is actually reduced wear.
