Another reason is that the 4.10 sets being installed are starting to fail. If you plan to drive the car AGRESSIVE with a CLUTCH then you will puke the gear sets in 4.10.

DONE IT on the street. My stock shafts are 100% cool but the 315/35 20 NT05 street version and 4.10 gears with an aggressive launch equals teeth sheared of the pinion.

I CAUTION anyone with a 4.10 set and a clutch!

i know gears make ur car faster.. they saying 3.73 adds like 9% to the torque and power
but on a dyno does the car register less HP?

true. the way the dyno calculates hp/tq is affected by the gear ratio

How does the pinion look compared to the 4.10? Is it much beefier? Easier to set up quiet?

Its quite a bit beefier, there haven't been any 3.73 failures. As far as setting them up quietly goes, that would be a question for an installer but I don't think the difficulty would vary significantly with the gear ration. Probably varies more with who actually installs it.

Camaro21, what were your reasons for the gear change? Obviously with 603 rwhp you are not lacking power or torque. Do you drag race the car? Do you think gears will improve you time? I can understand someone that does not have that kind of power adding gears, but with your level of power I am curious what the gains are.

Did you do to the C5 Fest? He is the one that was the last man standing at the drag strip. He was dragging all day long. He told me that was his first time, if I recall correctly. Quote me Camaro21 If I am wrong....

A high power car will benefit from a gear swap just as any other car will, you just need to be careful to not go too aggressive on the ratio and get into traction issues.

Yeah, I like to take my car to the track locally. My best time on street tires with stock clutch/drivetrain is 11.98. I am gonna borrow some drag radials this friday and go to the track again and see what I can post. I will post the results in the Official 1/4 mile fast list thread..
