You guys are not telling me what I want to hear

This ruins my one liner. " Theres no law about getting to the speed limit very quickly"

Thanks for the replies. The truth hurts.

I wonder if Ontario has a pay in advance plan.

Yeah, I got that ticket one time, in a 2001 automatic v-6 camaro (no mods), and I didn't spin the tires. Depends on the porkmaster, ahem, i mean cop.

Exhibition driving, and it's frowned upon here too.

That would likely be illegal for them to do for a moving violation. Seizure of property requires a significantly more 'major' violation.

In either case, dont do it on public roads.

Thet's tyrranical. There should be limits on how much they can torment the people.

Your city must be the one where the guy welded himself a bulletproof cabin on his bulldozer and welded himself inside and wrecked the town before offing himself.

They'll find a way to ticket you if they want. When you see that black-and-white, you best blend into the pavement.

Actually if you have a lean on the vehicle or not doesn't matter. They still can seize the vehicle and title and the "owner" or ex-owner in these cases are still responsible for paying off the car. There is just more paperwork involved so it's up to the officer if he feels like doing a couple more pages of paperwork.

It's not illegal. North Carolina gives each city and county the option to seize and auction off the vehicle for any exhibition of speed ticket regardless if it is for street racing or simply for chirping the tires.

I believe the idea behind this is not to get the guy "for chirping the tires"... as I seriously doubt any NC officer would take someones new Camaro for a "chirp".

I believe it is more about giving the local authority... THE authority. (kinda what this country usta stand for... personal responsibility 1st, neighborhood responsibility 2nd, then local, then state... then federal. When did it all get turned upside down?)

These answers are just plain scary. Sounds like police have far too much power IMHO if they can take your vehicle for a purely opinion-based charge. Speeding is one thing..... if you are caught on the radar above the speed limit... that is a justified charge with solid proof to back it up. Or even if you break the rear end loose on a turn and go into another lane..... that would be justified as well. But "excessive display of speed" is simply unjust.

It amounts to the same thing if a cop in Arizona harasses you because they think you may be an "illegal." If a cop thinks you got to the speed limit too fast, he can just seize your vehicle??? There are far too many "gray areas" when it comes to what police can and cannot do to you. I dont like it one bit. That is simply not right. I hate the fact that I get a feeling of "paranoia" whenever I see a cop on the road, rather than the comfort of safety. When it comes down to it, cops are people...imperfect people just like the rest of us..... easily capable of lying just like the rest of us. In court... there should be no difference. So unless there is solid proof...... i call it

(PS... i know there are many police officers on C5. I do not have the opinion that all cops are bad/dishonest, far from it. However I speak from a number of bad experiences. Unfortunately its been a 50/50 chance. And its the bad stories that stick in your mind. When it comes to a group of people having power over another, even 50% bad apples is 50% too many)
