If it's more than $12, I'm out. That's about half of my mod budget these days

smog testing w/ LT headers...

Hello guys,

In our experience... its usually best to do just like Mindz said. Keep in mind that there are 2 parts to the smog test: 1) the visual portion 2) the actual emissions/output portion.

The smog technicians are told to look under the hood and under the car to try and spot any "illegal" modifications... the fact is that sometimes they don't look all that carefully and so you might be able to sneak by with longtube headers and the corresponding high-flow catalytic converters.

We have actually seen some customers with other types of vehicles pass their smog tests w/ long tubes and high flow cats... especially if the cars are stock or very close to stock. At this point, then they MIGHT pass the emissions portion but don't forget that you are still at the technician's mercy for the visual portion!

Take care and let me know if any other questions,

Gonzalo

In 5 years I plan to have a lift, at that point an exhaust swap would be much easier come smog time. But at this rate it may be five years before I can afford long tubes too. HAA.

You will get great power with shorties and mids. I would just get the mids to start and upgrade the the shorties at a later date if you choose.

Then when you pop the hood you look stock..

Sounds about right to me.

JBA Part 6813S 1 7/8" Long tubes = $800.00
JBA Part 6812SDC High Flow Cats = 449.00
SLP Underdrive pulley = $179.00
Labor for all these should be 6 hours at $60-$80 per hour.
Tune = $500.00 depending on the shop in California.

Total for parts is $1428.00
Labor = $480.00
Tune = $500.00

Total would be $2408.00 and if you add some tax you have your $2600.00
