I think you can't do a custom boot with the Pioneers.

Personally I would stay away from Pioneer, at least for their latest decks. There are a few things that I just didn't like about them but I did have one before in my RSX. I didn't really like the Pioneer GPS and MSN direct, which is how it gets it traffic info, will cease at the end of this year where as the Kenwood uses XM traffic and it is lifetime free. Check out kenwoodforums.com and there is is a link inside the 9960 subforum that compares it to the Pioneer Z110/120.

Oh forgot to mention too. THe Metra LCD I think is really hard to read at night. That blue is just too dark. Tonight or tomorrow night I am going to change the color on it and see if there is one that looks better. Just some of the icons are really hard to see. But then again I don't have 20/20 vision, but I'm at like 20/40 which isn't that bad.

Very nice....because of this thread I went to look at stereos.....omg shits expensive these days. I need to hit the lotto cause those systems are bad ass. I can't believe what metra went through to make a dash kit for this car lol.

YA they can be. I remember my RSX I put in a Pioneer and got lucky to find a guy on Craigslist selling it for less then half the price, brand new. Forgot why the guy was selling it.

But even this Kenwood deck, top of o the line, MSRP is like $1800 and I paid about $1050. cheaper on eBay plus using Microsoft's Bing cash back getting 8% refund. Too bad they are turning the cash back off at the end of this month. I my buy and return one from a authorized dealer and then use the purchase receipt to get $150 rebate Kenwood is offering.

What I don't get is just why these systems are so slow. not just Kenwood but even Pioneer I think is slow too. I was some videos on the Alpines and they seem pretty fast. I dont know if they just need more memory or a faster processor or what. But for the price they should be using a lot better hardware.

Here is the thread about the Pioneers. Part of the reason why I decided not to get Pioneer, but mostly was having Garmin instead of the Pioneer nav GUI.

Looks nice! Regarding the latency of the touch screen/buttons, my Kenwood ddx712 in my truck does that a bit as well. Not 5-10 seconds but a couple secs sometimes. It will never be as fast as a oem push button/knob radio as they don't have to process the graphical user interface (GUI) like these do. I am not sure if I would do this just yet to my camaro, just love the style of the radio and instant response times to song/station changes etc...

I have the exact same set up and problems that you talk about and more. When using the steering wheel controls I sometimes get a dwell and other times its instant. I know that there is already an update out for the head unit but I do not know what it fixes are have I applied it yet.
I do not know about yours, but I hate that my head unit turns off when using Onstar and absolutely hate that Onstar only comes out of the center dash speaker.

Sometimes it does react right away but sometimes it doesn't. Maybe like 70-80% of the time it is laggy. Does the same if I am using the steering wheel controls or on the head unit it's self, or even the remote.

I'm not seeing any issues with OnStar. It does mute the deck but OnStar works as it should. I'd have to check too but I think OnStar is supposed to use all speakers?

It is supposed to be all speakers...I pulled the center speaker out of my SS last week and I hear Onstar just fine.
