Take Motor Trend for instance. When they did their initial muscle car shootout between, Camaro, 'Stang and Challenger last year, Camaro won. Recently, MT turns around and downgraded the Camaro for its "Cartoonish styling...SAME freaking sheet metal, only a year later. Get the idea?

What you are saying is true. The autojournalists get paid to write about cars, more specifically NEW cars. Our Camaros are last year's news. They are not going to just reprint last year's praises even if they might personally like the older car better.
If they said that the Muskrat was a pile of sh1t, how many more cars would Ford give them to test? They know that by picking on the Camaro they will get GM to change it so that next year they can like it again and criticize the Muskrat and so on and so on.
I love my 1SS and I don't care if the Muskrat might be a nano second quicker in the 1/4 with it's lower gearing. I am not a professional drag racer so who cares? It's like in the wild west, when a gunman was the quickest draw, he became the target of everyone else. That was what last year's Camaro was, the quickest draw.
Wyatt Earp lived out his life after he was no longer the quickest, my Camaro will be with me for years even if the competition can out run it in the 1/4.

I read the review. I don't think they "slammed" it at all.

For one, in their review the Camaro won in the quarter mile. They also praised the interior (noting that one editor found it cramped but the writer was quite comfortable, preferring the seats to the Mustang).

Also, while the Mustang does win the review:

"Unfortunately, there isn’t a performance suspension option from the factory to improve handling further; it is what it is. And that’s actually quite good, but not as sporting as we’d like it to be."

"Down the straights is a different matter. The Camaro beats the Mustang by 2/10ths in the quarter, even offering launch control to help the novice. We defeated the system for our fast runs, though. The tall gearing of the Camaro allows for an ultra-lazy freeway cruise at 1400 rpm, but drop to 3rd for that hard acceleration from 75–110 mph, which is the perfect sweet spot for passing. The Mustang’s tighter-ratio transmission and optional final drive of 3.73:1 require a 3–4 shift in the middle of that same passing maneuver."

"We assumed from the Camaro SS’s comfortable ride and docile understeer behavior that it would fall apart at the racetrack. And that the Mustang GT with its upgraded suspension would destroy the Camaro. We were wrong, as only the slightest margin separates the two." (For the record, 1:36.6 vs 1:36.7 around the same track)

Yes, they declare the Mustang the winner, but "slammed"? I don't really think so. If anything, the takeaway I got from their review is that it's a good time to be into pony cars.

I bought my SS because I liked it and wanted it - not because some magazine liked it.

I thought the review was fair as well.

Camaro was 13.0 in the quarter mile at 110.7 mph
Mustang was 13.2 at 109.3

Camaro also won from 75-110, great for passing on the highway.

And, they basically tied on the racetrack......

Camaro won all the way through that test (look at the numbers) but the article praises the Mustang as being equal to the Camaro. On page 56 they give both cars a 30.0 in points... which clearly the Camaro was better.

Under subjective they gave the Mustang points while also giving the Camaro points. Sorry, but no. You either give one more or the other. The purpose here is to compare and contrast and there's no way they're both the same in four of the categories. That's a cop out and a way of getting your Mustang those much needed points.

Now take price. The GT Premium per the Ford website is MSRP $32,845. The 1SS is $30,945 and 2SS is $33,945. Might as well compare the price of the 1SS to the Premium because with all the features you get a lot more with the 2SS than the Premium GT (so you're paying more). Of course they give points to the GT on that one. Notice in the article... they tested "Price as Tested" SS at $36,265 and the GT at $39,680. Hmm...

As far as slalom, skidpad, and braking are concerned... they're listed under Performance but should be under subjective. None of those are being performed by a professional driver who is comfortable with that vehicle (say at least 6 months of driving it). I've seen numbers far better in favor of the Camaro in other reviews. So those don't count in my eyes.

Then of course you have the 2010 V6 compared to the 2011 V6. Whereas the 2011 Camaro if they even bothered to include it, has MORE horsepower than the 2010. To me that might make a significant difference in their testing.

This is a one sided article. They set out from the getgo to praise the GT (or Ford in general) and that's what they did. They had poor test parameters and don't deserve their magazine title let alone a Camaro included in it. Which by the way, I love how the Camaro on the cover is behind the Mustang when on the drag track it was ahead of the Mustang.

Poor magazine that I wont ever buy again.

For the 8,000th time, there is no Track Pack for the 2011 Mustang GT. I'm not sure about the V6, but I don't think it does either.

If it was such a grand conspiracy, they wouldn't have even posted that info.

Be nice if they detailed what the significant cost difference was and if they're going to compare pricing they might as well do it with what they tested not with what you'd get if you went bare model.

Crap magazine that I'll never be picking up again. They need to do a REAL review on these cars with REAL drivers.
