It looks like Obama is the ONLY chance the big 3 have to stay in business. No GM = No Camaro.

Read your History.... they should not be called the Big Three any more. They are the LAST Three. The same factors that eliminated the other 100 NORTH AMERICAN automotive brands from 1900 to 2000 are piling up in a perfect storm. I bet you all the carriage makers and horse livery operators and their LOYAL customers did not believe the "Horseless Carriage" was going to put them out of business and an AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE WOULD DISAPEAR. The Rolling Sones were wrong ....Time is not on our side.

Regardless of whether the gov't gives them the low interest loan aid or not, the "Last 3" will not survive unless they trim the fat from the bloated pig.

Private CEO jets are a perfect example of that fat that needs to be leaned out. I have absolutely no doubt that all of the Last 3 have WAY too many overpaid chiefs. Everyone from the CEO to the UAW is going to have to make concessions or they will not survive in modern industry.

Oh yeah, IMO, that 370z is one of the fugliest @$$ dragging rice burners that I have ever seen. Looks like someone is stashing a 800 lb. man in the trunk. I don't care for any rice burners anyway but the 350 looks better to me.

My wife and I talked about this and if my Camaro comes in and they are in bankruptcy I will still get it. If they do not survive the car would be worth alot down the road. If they do make it I got my car. It is a win win if they can survive for it to show up.

I'm sure on the corporate plane they have the ability to discuss confidential issues and prepare their remarks. This would be very difficult going commercial.

Plus it wouldn't look very good if they missed their Congressional hearings. I've spent enough time in airports to know that on time arrival is no guarantee.

No I don't work for GM. Yes the government should do the right thing and provide the loans necessary to keep them out of Chapter 11. The country needs GM and Ford and even Chrysler.

I think they should of at least all flown in on the same jet. Each flew in on their own jets at 20K each.

Well said, everyone wants to make a big deal about this, but this is normal for large businesses all over the place. This gives the executives the ability to visit different plants that are spread throughout north america and keeps them involved in what is going on. Their problem is not mismanagement, it is the falling off the cliff of sales in the industry. Look at the products this management team (and those at Ford and Chrysler) have developed and are in the pipeline. If we let them die now we will never get to see the resurgence of the auto industry in this country. When the market demanded trucks and suv's, the big three made some of the best and most desireable trucks in the world. Now the market is changing, give them a chance to do the same with cars.

Not "if", "when". You can bet it'll be a condition of any financial aid package that the auto industry receives.

With all this talk of failure...I think I am going to get 2 Camaros now. Save one in the plastic and hope they fail. I'll make a killing

GM is not going anywhere, as it has been pointed out already, K-Mart, Circuit City etc. The company will still operate. I would not call it "normal" but it does happen.

I do find it amusing many will blame GM for clinging to the SUV and its gas guzzling ways. Why did Toyota, the holy grail of car companies, enlarge their truck and large SUV models? Because that is what people want. Why is it that the government dictates to the auto industry all these CAFE regs and emissions regs forcing them to go smaller more efficient etc?....I have yet to see Al Gore driving around in a bullet proof Aveo. All these government officials whether it is Obama, Gore, Edwards, Kerry, it doesn't matter, they all want YOU to drive Prius' and THEY get to drive Suburbans. Infact the state police has started using Tahoes (its a gas guzzling SUV) AND they don't even have the decency to shut the car/truck off while sitting in the median chatting with their fellow officer. My stance is when they get serious, so will I.

Wow that took a turn for the worse. My point is, remove these ridiculous regulations and let these guys run the companies the way the market dictates rather than tieing their hands on what they can make or do.

Gm's north American operations (including dealers) needs to be trimmed in half. That should be the main condition. If they stop building sports cars like Camaro because congress mandated it the japanese will be the only ones in that market. Imagine that!

These companies are only a shell of their former selves...it's sad really.

But these companies can't be lumped in with GM...K-Mart and Circuit City sell third-party products. I don't trust K-Mart and C-City but I do trust the products they sell, so on the rare occasion when no other company has what I want I'll go there and look.

That's what GM will become if they file for bankruptcy, except it will be worse. THEY make the product, and it's incredibly expensive. A TV or clothes is one thing, a car is another. People will not want to buy cars from a bankrupt company made by a bankrupt comapny...they won't trust it especially with a huge expense such as a car.

Bankruptcy could kill GM.

Its funny having conversations with completely ignorant individuals regarding the financial situations of GM (not calling anyone here ignorant I am speaking about talking to other people). My room mate tried to debate with me that it is GM making all these horrible decisions yada yada yada, then I tell him a majority of their disadvantage comes from the fact they are forced to pay these ridiculous union contracts with liabilities for pensions and benefits. GM is being penalized because they produce their goods in America. Dont get me wrong this is great, but the government is putting american automakers at a disadvantage because they are American. Heres my solution, do what the Japs do to American cars, charge import taxes to put a premium on these vehicles and force people to reconsider buying imports...
