I do agree that 90% of the time, the added insurance is not much more than a money-making gimmick. The paint only protection price seems extremely high, though. But with the tire/wheel insurance, there comes a peace of mind knowing that in the event of a failure, such as a tire blowout and rim destruction, that you essenstially can get that tire/wheel replaced. One time having to do that will more than pay for the premiums. These cars don't have run-flats so that MIGHT be a consideration. If you decide on the wheel/tire thing, make sure it covers any replacement tires/wheels as these tires don't last a long time. If you plan on swapping and doing upgrades on wheels/tires, then I'm guessing you won't be needing that.
Read the fine print and TOTALLY understand what you'll be getting and as how you plan to use your car. Don't just take their word for it that something may be covered. If it's not in there in writing, it's not covered. Another thing is to see WHEN the coverage starts and ends, keeping in mind the 36 month and 60 month/100K mile warranties and what's concurrent and what isn't when it comes to paint. Apparently there's some debate about factory paint warranty whether it's 12/12 or 36/36. From some of the threads around here, you could swear the paint literally falls of the car from sitting in the garage. And lord help you if a bird craps on it. I must admit, the paint seems pretty cheap. It "auto-peeled" off the back of our car's bumper just sitting in the garage. Talk about cheez-whiz. Sure, it was covered by factory warranty, but what if it did it later on? If you're still interested in any insurance, then don't fear negotiating the "offered" price they throw at you. They can and DO reduce premiums. If they won't budge, then just say no. I bought the extended warranty and the wheel/tire warranty on the truck and the whole thing cost me 1/2 as much as the original "offer". My tire/wheel coverage DOES cover road hazard damage such as blowouts, nails, road debris, potholes, etc. but it ends at 5 years. Doesn't say anything about just covering original tires. I don't think it covers curb rash, or should it because if you drive on a curb, your an idiot and it's your fault. Being that the truck was built in Mexico (a fact I found out AFTER I agreed to purchase the truck) doesn't give me a warm fuzzy as the last time I bought a Mexican-built truck and NOT a GM brand, it sucked, plus they offered me a whole lot more than top trade in value for my old truck, I didn't feel like I was getting raped. I just have a bad feeling about that. It's the first time I've EVER purchased any insurance for any vehicle. Remember, as with all insurance, they're betting you WON'T use it, and you're having to gamble whether you will, and if so, will it be worth it. Keep your eyes peeled.

I like the idea of paint insurance if they will fix any ding or scratch. However, I read of one Camaro owner who had that insurance and then was turned down for a repair.

I bought the tire and rim insurance but it was $379 @ my dealer. Covers any tire and rim for 5 years. With the 20's a tire is $285 and a rim is $245 so it wouldn't take long to pay for hitting a curb or major puncture. Even covers replacement tires as long as 2/32 tread remains.
The paint insurance is a big NO.

It may vary by dealer but mine's tried to sell me the tire insurance - I would have bought it if it were for the wheel as well. I've used it before on an RX-8 I hopped a curb in, replacing the wheel and tire under Mazda's extended tire warranty paid for itself one time.

I personally have it on both my cars and have used it once already on the SS. It was very simple to make a claim and have the dent repaired. You simply call their 800 number and give them you info and set the appointment ... They come out to your home, work or dealer. For me they came out to the dealers because I was getting the oil changed that day anyways ...

Slingshot: 700.00 seems like a no brainer for the paint insurance. I can't stand to see dings and scratches in my car. I always park away from everyone and I still get deep scratches on my car from time to time.
What is not covered with the paint protection? Thanks |

A paint warranty isnt going to cover scratches and dings guarenteed, only against defect. But even then good luck. My buddy has an 08 F450, well its rusting on the rear window just a tad, guess what they wont cover it because of some bla bla bla reason, no damage nothing, 1.5 year old vehicle and rust.

no to paint yes to tire and wheel but make sure you read the coverage to see whats covered and the price on any of these is negotiable just like the car. I only paid 200 for mine and am about to use it. The wife loves curbs

Just used my tire and wheel ins for a small plug. Yes, it would have been a small amount for me, but there was a chance it could've been a total replacement. I did find out though that it doesn't cover curb damage (or as they say, cosmetic regardless of what created it). I geuss it needs to be a total crack to use the rim ins. Still though, you never know

Can you purchase the tire and wheel insurance thorough a dealer other than where you bought the car? Just wondering if you can shop around for price?
