I don't think it's such a big deal. I don't think the front plate looks that bad. Maybe it's because I have a white car? Or maybe I'm just used to it in California.

Tell the dealer no deal if they install bracket. You will install it yourself and leave it in the trunk! There are other post on C5 showing other possible ways to mount it without holes.

We also have a front plate here in New York and I never put it on my 2000 Camaro and haven’t had a problem I keep the plate under the seat and if I need it I put it on the dash.

I saw a guy that had attached it (with rubber bands) to the back of the passenger side visor and just "flips" it down when he needs.

Good Luck.

the dealer asked me how i wanted mine installed. i said i didn't, so it's inthe trunk and the plate is on passenger side visor. heard something about being able to see it at 100 ft, in iowa. haven't had any problems and we took her all along the west coast on vacation! it's a safety violation any way does't go against driving record. i think as long as your not roddin it in town they are not going to pull you over just for that. good luck!

Why do dealers DRILL 1/4 holes to put these on?? USE ZIP TIES AND NO-DRILL IT (if you really need it)

Here in California the front plate is required but my dealer did not put the bracket on. He said they don't put them on vettes and camaros. It is the new owners choice to install it or the dealer will if desired. My bracket is on my workbench. Now front plates are something that I pay attention to and I am surprised at how many people don't have them so I am not worried about it.

Honestly Scotty, drilling into the bumper is my one fear of buying a car!!!

i went to the local dealership to look at corvettes... EVERY SINGLE ONE had a front plate on it, including the Z06's and their ZR-1 of all vehicles

it's things like this, why I am definitely considering ordering out of state from you when i get my Z28 or C7 vette!!!!!!

My dealership worked with me on this...I told them, in no uncertain terms, "NO DRILLING, OR I WALK AWAY FROM THE DEAL!" They made sure it did not happen, and my front license plate bracket was right there in the trunk, where I asked them to put it.

Since Texas law requires a front plate, they made me sign a form, absolving them of responsibility for not mounting it, but I thought that was perfectly fair. Then, I did mount my bracket, but with zip ties and clear vinyl tubing to protect my grille (see my post on the DIY Forum). Now I have the option to remove my front license plate if I ever want to, and there are no unwanted holes in my car.

Suggest you take same route with your dealer...no worries!

THANKS for all the replies guys!!!

I'm definitely going to buy one of those $100 brackets on the internet that just connects to the lower grill. No freaking holes are going into my bumper.

Man, Iowa sucks!!! Front lisence plates and ANY tinting on the driver and passenger doors is illegal. Unless of course you live on the east side of Waterloo and drive a hoopty. Cops are too scared to pull them over. They just harrass us hard working, middle class folks.

Anyway, my parents bought a Malibu years ago and the dealer just used 4 freaking screws and attached their lisence plate to their front bumper without a bracket.

Needless to say, Dad went off the deep end on them. Lucky for them, the lisence plate bracket they ordered after his tirade matched the holes they had already put in the bumper.

I'd hate to have to go postal if they did that to my new Camaro.
That may be the case but you can use laser jammers, so it's not that bad. ;-)

I used some big washers, both steel & rubber, to mount it with bolts through the bottom stock grill. Can't use on this grill.

Once I finished that set up, I put it all in the trunk!

Not saying anything else to jinks it......................

Front Plate Law

If you live in a state with front plate law, it has to be mounted on front bumper area and visible, not on a visor, in a glove box or under seat. If they pull you over they could write a ticket, most areas don't enforce it unless your getting pulled over for a more serious violation then they'll write several tickets.
I do have a front plate on mine because it's the law in Illinois, I dont' know what the big deal is having a bracket mounted on the front bumper, our plates are mounted on the back bumper, had them on all my muscle cars in the 60' & 70's!!! Just my opinion.

Guys, get this. I stopped at the gas station to buy a Dr. Pepper and a snack on the way home from work, and a gentleman in line behind me walked out and commented positively about my Camaro. We chatted for a bit, then he mentioned my plate in the window. I thought I was being clever, and told him about what I posted above.

He then elbowed me and told me he was an undercover state trooper. The look on my face must have been priceless, because he looked at me seriously for a moment, then laughed and said front plate laws were stupid anyway and told me no one but a small town local cop would bother me about it anyway. He said as long as I had it displayed like that in the window I should be okay.

Still caught my nerve for a moment nonetheless. He was actually a pretty cool guy, and said he'd have a Camaro too if he didn't have kids. Told me to have fun and not get caught speeding out there.
