I read somewhere else that the Camaro Team will not release this car until it passes the no gas guzzler tax threshold. I hope this is true.

Fbodfather -- you know anything about this?

This looks bad at the moment. Especially with a Democrat controlled Congress and White House that will be in place by the time the Camaro comes out..Furthermore who knows what agreements the Government and the Big 3 will come up for the bailout knowing full well the intentions are to encourage fuel efficiency hybrid vehicles and discourage cars like the Camaro SS and Pontiac G8.. Hopefully the Camaro Team and Scott are correct in their assessment about the gas guzzler tax from before but things are looking more dim each passing day..

This makes no sense, the Mustang GT Auto is rated at 22 mpg hwy and the Mustang Gt with a manuel gets 23 hwy mpg. They don't get hit with a gas guzzler tax, so I highly doubt the Camaro will. We would know about it by now if it did, besides GM have been focusing on power and fuel ecomony for the camaro since the beginning.

The Gas Guzzler Tax for each vehicle is based on its combined city and highway fuel economy value. Manufacturers must follow U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) procedures to calculate the tax. The calculation uses a formula that weights fuel economy test results for city and highway driving cycles (the combined value is based on 55% city driving and 45% highway driving). Fuel economy values are calculated before sales begin for the model year. The total amount of the tax is determined later and is based on the total number of gas guzzler vehicles that were sold that year. It is assessed after production has ended for the model year and is paid by the vehicle manufacturer or importer.

Based on the EPAs formula, the SS gets the weighted average fuel economy of about 19 mpg. That means a $2100.00 gas guzzler tax.

Somehow I think there is a missing link though. The Chally pilots are saying that the R/T, that gets very close fuel economy scores as the SS do not have to pay the tax, but the SRT8 does have to pay the tax.

I sure hope that I am wrong and that someone can clarify.
That has to be the dumbest, stupidest, most ridiculous equation I've ever seen....which may be about right for the EPA!!
But I think I read the SRT8 is 13-18mpg and gets hit with only a $2,XXX guzzler tax. Need more input.........

Gents: you should know what the price of your vehicle is by now!
Gas guzzler tax is paid by the manufacturer ans PASSED on to the consumer via MSRP and/or adjustment on sticker. Has anyone been told either is taking place?? NO, so stop stressing.

GM is hoping to move 5000 to 7000 GXPs per year, but sales of the G8, introduced last February, have been off Pontiac’s predictions by more than 50 percent, thanks to high fuel prices and America’s soft economy. The GXP’s base price will be about $40,000, including a $2000 gas-guzzler charge, when sales begin in December

How much will it run you? The early, unconfirmed word is about $40K. That will be about $39,000, plus $685 destination charge and gas guzzler tax – oh yeah, estimated ratings of 14/20 mpg on the manual will do that.

Actually on the statement there is still no price on the car even though officially we all may have an agreement on MSRP with the dealer officially. The gas guzzler tax would be something extra we would see when doing the final payment if I remember correctly since I was hit with it once before..
