Does anyone think this will become an option in 2011? I would rather have this feature than, HUD, Nav, or especially XM/Onstar.

Do any of you have cars that have the smartkey/push button that don't like it?

Thanks.
Have it on my BMW .. love it ... I too wish the Camaro would have had push button .... cool factor +100

Push button and keys that i never have to take out of my pocket were extremely high on my list. Even above the HUD, and climate control.

You start to add all those other options and push the price up all of a sudden folks will start to shop around. The idea is NOT to compete with the BMW/Lexus crowd. It is to beat it! Lets face it, if you need all of those luxuries you really are not a camaro buyer anyway.
Why would push button cost more? Existing keys are proximity keys. You cant make a copy and start your car without the right key. You can start it with a copy if you have an original close by. Only difference I know of is one uses a button and one uses the cylinder lock. Seems the push button would cost a lot less to produce than a locking cylinder. I haven't had push button since a '49 Chevy pickup, and that was a huge button on the floor that mechanically engaged the starter solanoid. You had to have one foot on the brake or clutch and the other on the starter and throttle at the same time.

My new Vette has the HUD, Navigation, and Smartkey. I have to say that despite all of my reservations about each of those options, I am very happy with all of them. Despite not thinking the HUD necessary, it sure is convenient, and keeping my key in my pocket always is a plus. There is something special about putting in the key and turning on a car, but with the car being what it is, I can't complain.

don't that defeat the purpose of having a copy, in case you lose or don't have the original with you.

plus the fact that the RFid source code has already been hacked.anytinhg using RFid can be copied just by walking close to you.they have been doing it in many places now,so far its mostly been with rail passes , credit cards, and passports.I havent heard of a car being jacked like that ,but give it time.Nowdays i use a RFID blocking wallet.

i thought that was funny, richard's expression when he realized his car was not parked where he left it was priceless .

Sure, but I was just trying to make a point. When I had a remote start installed in my Silverado they had to put one of the keys in a little box under the dash in order for the remote to work. It needed the chip to be very close or the computer wouldn't let the truck start. As long as that key was there it would start even with a copy. The drawback was less security because a theif could also start it if they tried.
